Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young will make his return on Thursday against the Charlotte Hornets, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Thursday will be Young’s first game since he went down with a right MCL sprain on Oct. 29.

Young was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, his second practice back with the Hawks after scrimmaging with their G League affiliate earlier this week.

“It’s my knee, something that had to take a little more time than some other injuries … I feel good,” Young said Tuesday, via ESPN. “[My conditioning is] going to get better as you play. They wouldn’t even allow me to come back or even be close to coming back if my conditioning wasn’t right or close to it.”

Young suffered an MCL sprain in his right knee during the team’s win against the Brooklyn Nets on Oct. 29, and he hasn’t played since. That was just the team’s fifth game of the year. The Hawks have gone 13-9 without him over the 22 games that he’s missed.

Young averaged 24.2 points and a career-high 11.6 assists per game, which led the league, last season while earning his fourth All-Star nod. The 27-year-old is in the fourth year of a five-year, $215 deal with the Hawks this fall. He was eligible for a four-year extension, but a deal wasn’t done in time before training camp.

The Hawks will enter Wednesday’s game in North Carolina with a 15-12 record. The team has not made the playoffs since the 2023 campaign.

“We’re trying to win,” Young said. “For me, it’s exciting having those guys, more voices that know what it takes to win at a high level, but also just playing a role at a high level… me included. I got to play my role in helping our team win.”

Be boarding the black pearl tonight. Hate the blackouts.

I can’t get the game to load on fan duel through prime.. what’s the deal!?

sometimes it takes 5-10 minutes for it to load for me (I’m not exaggerating!) Lately it has been loading quickly during pregame, but if I get kicked out then it takes a very long time to resume. Tonight it loaded quickly. I have 1 gb fiber so it should not be on my end. No issues with other apps or services.

Got it working finally.

I love when we pass the ball. No idea why we don’t pass every game.

FWIW, Prime gave an option to watch called “Main Broadcast “ that worked a little bit ago. Showed starting at 7:05. Started a second or two after I selected it. And if you can get WSOC, it’s on over the air as well.

I don’t have it locally in Wilmington for some reason… even though I’ve seen where we are supposed to.

that said… I the feed that worked. No idea what the issue was.

This was a beautiful game and why I’m not ready to give up on the trio of LaMelo, Miller and Kon

Great win. The way LaMelo played is how he needs to play going forward. I don’t recall him forcing any shots. Do need to take care of the ball, especially late.

Edit: Is Tidjane playing his way to making Bridges expendable? I sure hope so.

I can't decide if I like the tequila sunrise color scheme. Love the logo though

Kon Kon Kon. I have no doubts when he shoots a set shot

Mich_Mercer

We just have to keep passing the ball. We go away from that most games for some reason.

So far, so good

Mich_Mercer

Glad we got a shot off there… Not sure why we had Siam holding the ball so long there.

tnhornetsfan

Always do that. I'd like to see them just run the offense at the end of quarter

Mich_Mercer

Dang Miller. Hate they gave him a tech there, when some players get in guys faces after a dunk and no tech

tnhornetsfan

Didn't think that warranted a technical

This is so fun to watch

GoBobcats24

I hate the way Lee coaches with leads

Mich_Mercer

Oh cool… Miles is hurt now? How predictable

GoBobcats24

Of course, hornets law. Can't get a guy back without sacrificing another.

Miler seems to have his hops back.

What a horrible way to close out the quarter

We are going to lose this game

GoBobcats24

Not if we actually play Lamelo Kon and Brandon together

dnbman

80 at the half. 90s Pistons are disgusted.

I was worried after the end of the first half, but we have bounced back… fun game

This is the Lamelo we’ve been missing. So fun to watch.

GoBobcats24

Another questionable lineup with a lead. Rinse and repeat

TheDorkLord

could there be a crack in Hornet's Law? Miles being back in the game during 2nd half

tnhornetsfan

Wish the Hornets had a Jalen Johnson

TheDorkLord

what a horrible call

Mich_Mercer

He jumped into him.

Still dumb though… we always find ways to do dumb things

TheDorkLord

yep, my earlier comment was about the tripping call

GoBobcats24

So can we lose this quarter by 11 or less

TheDorkLord

how much would it cost to have the NBA headquarters to inform the refs that the Hornets are actually a good defensive team? lol

Chef

Here is a concern with Lee's offense and it is the same thing Boston deals with. It is so three centric. Nights like tonight are great and they can literally play with anybody. But on nights when Kon, miller and melo aren't 80% from three on 16 makes it stinks

And personally it is also boring basketball

GoBobcats24

Time to put KJ in lol

Lee has to yank Kon or Brandon or he might croak

Mich_Mercer

We will find a way to lose this game at the end… it will be close, but Lamelo will have to sit bc if minutes restriction.

We cannot get a rebound

Ok. Well it looks like Lamelo is coming back in!

Is he going to play 2 minutes and sit bc he’s at 26 minutes. No way he can play more than 28… it’ll kill him.

GoBobcats24

God these refs are on one

Should have just been out of bounds but they gotta protect a FUCKING spread

Mich_Mercer

Are we throwing this game? So many stupid passes

Yep… going to lose bc Hornets

Love seeing Lemelo drive to the hole. We tried to lose this but we pulled it out. Thank goodness for the clock.

Icky_Thump

You'd think LaMelo and Okongwu have something against each other. Weren't they high school teammates?

100 1
TheDorkLord

yes they were

Icky_Thump

lol

cltblkhscoach

This is what it could be. Damn man can we just be f'n healthy for a while

star_struck 2
Icky_Thump

Can only dream…

Mich_Mercer

No. We cannot. What kind of silly question is that?

Glad we won but we still have to play smarter closing out games and playing with big leads. We give it away so fast.

tnhornetsfan

Had me worried late. Nice to have LaMelo back. Good win.

Mich_Mercer

Lamelo showed why he’s our franchise player to close it out that last few minutes. Maybe we can have 3… Ball, Kon, Miller.

GoBobcats24

Isn't it amazing what happens when Lamelo is actually in at the end of a game??? Also he is trending in the right direction when he plays. God PLEASE give us health the rest of the season.

Also HOW ABOUT MY GUY TIDJANE SALAUN. He is making a real difference both ends.

I will say, the chest bump by Kon and Melo after he made a three mid way through the second was something to behold.

If we could sustain that, this team could very special. Of course, that kind of thinking keeps Vegas in business.

I missed this one but watched the extended highlights. Key to victory: hit 24 threes every game. Easy! Kon is up to 40.9% from three on the year now.

Jalen Johnson is incredible man. Jalen Johnson and Jalen Williams (OKC) are such underrated stars.

Those yellow orange jerseys may be some of my least favorite hornets attire. If they’re going to go for it, just wear the Charlotte bobcats jerseys but with hornets font on it, or add the hornet logo to color match the orange, blue-grey, white colors of the bobcats. I also don’t love that idea but it would be better than the orange ombré thing.

The way they moved the ball was a thing of beauty. Brandon, Kon & Melo with strong contributions.

How you guys feeling about Salaun? Determined self confident drives, good man D and hitting his outside shots. I look forward to raising our collective BBIQ when he replaces Miles.
