Game chat: #Game 37: TOR at CHA - Chat - Hornets Planet
Another heart breaker. That’s 5-6 recent fourth quarter collapses in the last month or so. Would feel very different with another 5 wins in our current record
agree. While my heart is broken with these losses that could be wins, my mind reminds me that we’re still another draft, off-season and trade deadline away from competing in the East. Patience is difficult for those who have been without for so long.
Most teams actually play their best lineups in the 4th. We try our best not to. We wait until the 4 minute mark of the quarter to get serious lineups in in close games. You have got to execute the last 8 minutes of a game properly. Lamelo and Moussa go in at the 4 min mark last night and we win. No excuses for this level of lineup mismanagement down the stretch of games, unless of course we are tanking.
For whatever reason, it seemed like Lee was holding Melo out until Toronto put Barnes back in the game. Maybe it was a matchup thing or something, but I think Lee needs a veteran assistant coach on his staff. We gotta remember he’s young too.
Lamelo is one thing but Moussa is not on a mins restriction that anyone knows of so no excuse there. But Lee rode the “hot hand” in PJ hall and Sexton (his words)
That’s certainly a theme, Lee getting a little too cute and overthinking the rotation. Especially in the 4th. Another game we should’ve won. That’s around 6 games (or a few more?) in the recent month+ that we probably should’ve won.
If we were able to convert 5 of those whiffs into wins, hornets are basically a .500 team. I don’t want to be too negative, because the competitiveness is what we’ve been begging for since…forever? But it still stings.
This one hurts because we play the pacers and jazz next. If you go back the the warriors game that we blew, followed by the Bucks game that we blew, and now the Raptors game that we blew (all in the 4th). Say that we beat the pacers and Jazz…that would’ve been a 7 game winning streak….yeah. Ouch.
After the pacers and jazz, we see a four game west coast stretch of : clips, lakers, warriors, nuggets and cap it off with Cavs and Magic. That’s a brutal stretch.
