If you were to consider the latest talk that we trade Melo, where is there a landing spot that we could get favorable trade assets back? I’m only thinking there are a handful of teams, Orlando, Houston, Dallas, and Sacramento. I don’t know what any of them could offer us, that they would offer us, that would make sense. In that regard, I don’t think he’s going anywhere.
Brooklyn?
Toronto?
What possible package would they have for us though
My thought was to double dip in the top 6 this year. But Brooklyn can’t do that because Houston has their pick.
Toronto: two screenshots below for the players. This years 1st, after the lottery selection, unprotected if not #1 overall, plus 2026 and 2028 top 2 protected.
I really prefer the idea of building around two top 6 picks this year + miller. You could even keep bridges as the holdover since everyone seems to be saying he should stay.
The only concern, and it is a real one, is coach’s take that the FO can’t be trusted to pick even remotely correctly in the draft.
Yes, I’m into trading up to get back into the top 10-12 picks in this draft. Very much so. I don’t think some people realize how great this draft class is. A stark contrast to last year.
Also, OKC has three (!!) picks inside the top 16. Doubtful they keep all of those. This is why I’m a little more critical about the Thunder’s approach to assets/draft capital. They’ve reached they point where they have essentially depreciating assets, due to how many picks they have. They cannot draft three fucking players inside the top 16. They know this. And everyone else knows this. Options:
Continue to depreciate those picks and trade for lesser value future picks. Or, sell them off to other teams wanting to move up into this draft. But all those teams know that OKC cannot actually balk on offers and simply draft players. They can’t. So the trade offers will be pretty tame.
I’d love to trade Ball for good value. I love Sengun. He’s my dude.
The magic: unlikely destination for Melo. On one hand, it makes sense. They need scoring, a PG upgrade, and outside shooting. Boom. On the other hand: Magic value system players and solid defenders. Melo is not a system guy and a very poor defender. So I’d say the magic are out. I’d say the magic are looking for more of a younger Fred Van Vleet or Jamal Murray type.
Houston: also makes sense. Ostensibly. I think Reed Sheppard would be the asset guy they would try to send to us. Can’t imagine them giving up Sengun. I’m unsure of how much term is left on the Van Vleet deal. He may be an expiring that makes the salaries work.
But, a jalen green/Melo ball duo is sure to be one of the league-worst defensive tandems. Yowza. Fun to watch together though
Seems the jury is not in concert with the assertion that the draft “class” is that great. That was the messaging earlier in the year but it seems to be morphing quite a bit over the last month. I keep hearing more recently that it gets shaky once you get late 1st round. Couple that with the increasing NIL money and we might find more guys than once expected to be high possible end of first-rounders staying in college (or portal) another year.
I am looking for who needs Melo vs. the best possible trade out there. In the FVV situation, he’s expiring but 44m so we’d need to send something more out - which is where I’d expect the additional FRP.
Well, depth is certainly a contributing factor to decreasing the value of the draft class. Absolutely. But NIL money withstanding, it would be a little deeper and more robust into the 2nd round. I just really like the first round of this draft. Lots of very intriguing players.
And I hope there will be some trades to move up.
I guess I should move this into a different thread
Yeah that makes sense to me. I’ve tinkered around with this too and it’s tough to find situations that make sense and work out.
I don’t think the FO moved LaMelo, at least this off-season. I think they give it at least 1 more season to see where he, and the team are. I think Bridges probably stays, unless they receive a really good offer. Like it or not, he’s been the one reliable player they have this year. I think they revisit the Mark trade value. I just sense they’re ready to move on.
I would have to agree with all of that. I would imagine they’d want to give Coach Lee another year with (hopefully) a healthy team and a few additions.
Why in the world would charlotte do that lol
