2025-26 Hornets free agency and beyond

Why haven’t we signed Thomas Bryant? Is he worried about coming to Charlotte? Is he holding out for something better/bigger? Do we not want him (which would be crazy)?

The Lakers passed on him and the Pacers didn’t want him back. In Charlotte he could probably start.

This guy seems like an obvious choice.

I can’t tell if this is just being an irritant or you don’t pay any attention to anything. We don’t have roster spots.

If he wants to come here on a camp contract, sure, but we likely need someone better than that if they are to make the team.

Are you sure you were not being insulting and condescending? Are you really really sure? Did you endorse the attack coach?

Anyway My hand was forced:

Hey, Google AI explain buyouts to me.

AI Overview

In the NBA, a contract buyout is an agreement between a player and their team to terminate the player’s contract, allowing the player to become a free agent. The player usually gives up a portion of their remaining salary in exchange for the freedom to sign with another team.

“… we likely need someone better than that if they are to make the team.”

And for the serious comment: He’s better than what we have now and clearly nobody’s serving up reasonable trade offers to Jeff.

So it’s back to Thomas as the rational choice. Big Al would be nice but he probably wouldn’t sign. So it’s back to Thomas. Two year agreement w a team option.

I like shooting. I like scoring. I like buckets.

“Waiter, I’ll take one order of all the shooters and buckets you have on the menu please.”

“Sir, that’s ten guards.”

“Waiter. Did I stutter? I want all the guards, buckets, and shooters you have.”

“Of course sir, right away. One order of 2025 charlotte hornets right away.”

Reminds me of Ron Swanson from parks and rec:

I am just waiting to see if I am kicked off.

Anyway I met Hulk Hogan once on a 6th grade field trip to Kitty Hawk. It was near the height of his fame. I figured a bunch of NC guys would appreciate that nugget.

It’s looking to be a long offseason…

It’s the least I can do.

Well, to respond to your post in a more approachable way that invites actual basketball discourse,

What did you see in Thomas Bryant that makes you feel strongly about him? I’ve always seen him as a pretty shaky defender and rebounder. I’d say it’s pretty telling that the pacers who are sans Myles turner decided to let him walk.

But maybe it’s more about money than Bryant’s skill. Such that Thomas Bryant’s camp felt that his fairly decent playoff contribution could fetch him more money elsewhere than the minimum Indiana would’ve given him. And at 27 years old, he wants more than a one year minimum prove it deal…and it hasn’t panned out for him?

Edit: if it wasn’t for Plumdog millionaire, I’d be more apt to sign Thomas Bryant. Not that I’m enamored with plumlee, but he’s a warm body. And he knows how to walk, work hard, and reverse slam dunk a few times.

Look I want to apologize to the board for that outburst. It was uncalled for and I will try to stick to team advocacy. I really want to apologize to the Fantasy posters.

About the buyouts suggestion - any money spent on buyouts would reflect negatively on Jeff. Right now, I would say that he has a pretty spotless record with two big question marks: Tidjane and Josh.

Pat, NSJ and DeQuan are the clear candidates for buyout. But you can also move them by way of loop sided 2nd round picks trades. Even then, that would reflect poorly on management.

I am VERY aware of our current pickle. This is the only explanation for the slowdown in transactions w the overwhelming imbalance in the back court/wing.

But if we are in an inflection point w ownership and their reported resentment of all the losing then I want to see more radical moves. Ownership says win now, then take risks.

The next clear choices to move would be Spencer or Josh. I think the team needs Mr. Dinwiddie a lot more than we need Mr. Green but Spence would be brought out because of cash consideration and that would hurt the team.

This would be a great trade for us; however, if I were the Cavs, I would not give up Garland for 1-2 years of Lebron.

You don’t need to apologize for shit. Thanks for your regular posting and commmets. You’re allowed to have different opinions and ideas. Even though we may strongly disagree with other people here on the beautiful HP community, I know that we can also be respectful. I think we all have a good enough rapport here to provide the snarky commentary when necessary. I just hope it can be snarky and fun without being accusatory. Sarcastic commentary with decorum would be ideal.

You’re more than welcome to have a minority opinion. Even if others may not like it.

Jake Fischer thinks Vuc will be brought out of his contract. I think we should offer NSJ, and a 2nd for him, get in there before they release him. 40% from 3 is what we need for a big man.

I’m kind of tired of having these good players just get released and then sign with a contending / large market team for free, essentially.

Hopefully someone will give something up for him and I’d love for it to be us.
