There was a lot of editorializing in that article, and I don’t really agree with his characterizations or how he framed KOC’s opinion. Which, he summarizes the gist of it, I guess, but made it seem like a harsh cut down of the team. It was more, “hey, this looks like a fun team, we’re not sure how good they can be yet since there’s a lot of unknowns about health and how the new guys fit in.” Not the sort of doom tone the article paints.
Also, claiming Miller is now the face of the franchise and no one else on the roster stacks up seems purposefully showing his disregard for Melo or his desire to move on from him. Sure, I guess it’s your opinion article, but you still need to maintain some objectivity. Like or dislike Melo, he is the current face of the franchise at this point, and will remain the face until he is traded or retires.
As good as Miller is and can be, he’s not there yet. Not until he’s able to get to the rim at will and finish, get to the line, and break people down off the dribble and get his own bucket time after time at the close of the game. Jalen Williams has that ability, Jaylen Brown developed that ability over time, Miller needs to get there first to become a co-headliner/franchise player.
The way Melo has played this preseason shows the coaches have reined in his bad tendencies from last year. I think if he can get to 65+ games, he can get 23-26 ppg, 8-9 assists, the Hornets stay in the playoff race throughout, and he makes his All-star return, the national media might actually acknowledge and regard him as a legitimate player again. But I don’t think I’d treat him as an also-ran, or that he’s not going to be here long term in my writeup.
I agree. And with your assertion that miller hasn’t proven anything other than potential at this point.
It’s no secret, I am not a melo fan but he is the best player on the team when on the floor. I really like miller but he has a long way to go. Plus, I am almost convinced they don’t use him right anyway.
I would also disagree with how the KOC statements were interpreted and extrapolated upon in that article posted above.
I think Brandon miller still has a lot to prove. We’ve all seen flashes of “wow.” Without a doubt. I love the potential in his game. I listen to a lot of basketball podcasts and a phase I’ve heard parroted 4-5 times is “Miller looks to be a good two way player.” I would respectfully disagree. I’ve never been wowed by Brandon’s defense and I would like to see him turn it up. I’m not saying he’s a poor defender, I’d just like to see more before I call him “a good two way player.”
I think he also needs to be a better rebounder given his 6’8-6’10” size. His room for improvement on rebounding may be a reflection of his lack of physicality and defensive instinct. Yes, Melo is a great rebounder because he has elite anticipation. Melo can rack up steals because of this skill also. But steals do not equate to good defense either haha
Do we have any updated timelines on the Josh green and Grant Williams injuries? Salaun being the primary PF backup makes me nervous. I’ll be relieved to see Grant Williams back to soak up some of those PF minutes. I’m assuming we’re looking at:
The offense also continues to keep him outside which I can’t stand. Defensively he guards the sg most of the time. He is consistently not put in places to get rebounds
I decided I wanted to light a few dollars on fire today, so I placed a bet on Kon tomorrow night. 20 or more points and 4 or more threes. +2500 odds.
Would be cool to see kon light it up in his first game. I remember when PJ Washington came in and hit a bunch of threes in his first nba game. Didn’t he hit like 5 threes??
Sure, the bet below is pretty optimistic. Because we don’t know what to expect from the rotation. But…it’s not too crazy. Sexton can get hot and hit threes (recent knicks game).
Well I certainly have a lot of stoke about last night. Good start.
Kalk with a double double and two blocks. Moussa with a near double double. The highlight was the coast to coast Moussa dunk towards the end of the first half.
Let me preface this with: it’s just the Nets and their front court is not exactly intimidating. But for all our concerns with the state of our front court and centers…the Kalk/Moussa rotation looked pretty good. Double double for Kalk and Moussa 1 rebound away from another double double.
Also out rebounded the nets 50-38. It’s a good start. Oh, and Sion James looked like he belonged. What an insane 2025 draft this would be if things work out.
