Hey man, it’s a new day for Charlotte hornets basketball! Our front office has things on lock. I believe in their draft acumen.
checks notes
Tidjane Salaun…yeah. Our new FO definitely has this draft stuff figured out!
If you look at the last dozen drafts, I’d say it’s not a foregone conclusion that we (Eastern Conference teams) get much right (outside of Cade and Paolo recently)
I know man, you can’t make this shit up
If the hornets fall i really hope we get liam mcneely
He has old school zbo type vibes
Walter Clayton from Florida is making himself some money. What’s his projection?
Only watching a small sample here but sure seems like Duke is allowed to foul guys without any concern of a call defensively. Hard to understand how they are going to be defensively in the NBA.
(I am not including Flagg in that comment btw, also very likely the guys I am seeing in that aren’t NBA bound to begin with)
What are your draft tiers for the lottery?
If we get the number 3 pick, who are you guys taking between Ace and VJ?
It’s unequivocally, without a shadow of a doubt Ace for me. I will be extremely upset and disappointed if we chose VJ over Ace. What I see from Ace with the eye test alone tells me he is Special. There may be a world where VJ becomes a better pro but if I’m putting my money on it with the skills and measurables that Ace has I’m way more confident in his floor. And IF he reaches his ceiling, we’re talking generational talent.
I will say Ace may have a ways to go to really contribute to winning basketball. Like Flagg is gonna come in day one ready to turn a teams wins around significantly and that’s what sets him apart as the clear number 1 pick. But the path for Ace to be a great player is not at all hard for me to see.
I would also say that Ace is gonna carry significant trade value for a long time too. To me he’s BPA at #3 and just a better asset to have.
Never a doubt.
Here’s hoping this is the year Charlotte finally breaks the #2 run and gets the first pick
Let’s hope, as long as we can get top 4 I will be happy though.
Yeah, I’m just hoping we don’t move back now than one position. I have no desire to put my hopes into the required luck that we move up 2 spots.
Couple thoughts.
-If hornets get pick 4 and the trio of Flagg, Harper, and Bailey are off the board (which is very likely), I’d like to see the hornets trade back to acquire another first round pick. I don’t feel strongly enough about anyone after those three players that I’d truly want at pick 4.
-if it’s via trade back or trading to get an additional first round pick, I’d like to see the hornets acquire another first round pick in this draft. Doesn’t necessarily have to be top 10. Could be anywhere, even later in the first round.
-there’s a lot of interesting players. I think Drake powell stays at Carolina, but he’s be a very interesting pick in the very late first or very early 2nd round. Defense, length, size, good mechanics for three point shot. I think he’s defense, size, and athleticism make him a good nba developmental candidate. Could be a nice backup for Brandon miller.
Why don’t we just take the kid from Maryland at 4 if we fall there?
I would love that. I have a hard time seeing his game transition to the NBA. If he’s like Sengun, then great. I just think his game is more oriented towards interior scorer, and may not transition well to the nba. That looks great in college, but I’m worried about his ability to defend. And I’m hoping his three point shot develops
I’m a huge Derek Queen fan. I really want it to work.
