He’s definitely been much better in recent games compared to earlier in the season.

Don't think so. He's both slower, and more disengaged this year than last. And that slower is both offensively and defensively. Add to that, he seems to me to be the laziest player we have in the team and I'm OK with dogging in him. Doesn't mean he can't still have a good game here or there.
