The real highlight was Cliff’s slow “what the fuck” mid handshake. That needs to be a Hornetsplanet gif ASAP
The irony in all of this is Draymond trying to be a voice of reason, acting like Grant was being over the top. While I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, it is pretty well understood that the norm in the NBA is that once a game is over, teams don’t try to score. I agree that the shove by Miles probably wasn’t necessary and did escalate things. I think the goaltend and maybe a stare down would’ve sufficed to effectively deliver the message. But at the same time, Kerr and Draymond’s justification that there was a difference between the game and shot clock rings hollow. We all see teams take shot clock violations all the time during a final possession. I’m usually not much of a conspiracy theorist, but I agree with GoBobcats that it’s probably not a coincidence that that layup covered the spread, which is indicative of a much deeper problem.
Plus his whole rant on Grant being a tough guy. Also weird that he said Miles was his little bro for life.
If the Hornets did the same Green would be the first to call it bull****. I loved what Grant did and that’s what builds a culture.
As much as I am 100% ready for kerr to go away, he’s right here.
It does bring clarity to the layup at the end beyond gambling line which I think is always a legitimate suspicion in pro sports.
Draymond is right too as much as it pains me to agree with him. Not on miles, he’s wrong there but it is good advice on becoming the bad guy if it causes you to lose focus on basketball.
And finally, this franchise needs so much heart and attitude adjustment towards basketball that I actually don’t mind that they did it. They may not be on the most solid footing but it needed to be done. Kinda like a coach taking a tech on a call that may not deserve it just to send a message.
In terms of Draymond’s comments, I guess:
-
What does it mean to become “a bad guy?” When I think of dudes like that, I think of Lambeer. And Draymond. I don’t see what Grant did as becoming a bad guy so much as stepping up to defend his teammates. And I don’t think that took away from his game, but I get the overall point.

Why does Draymond, who’s one altercation away from possibly being perma banned, need to say anything at all? Granted, the reporter is stirring things by asking the question, but Draymond could have left it at “shot clock was down; just took a layup to avoid TO.” And then just totally let Miles off the hook who was the one that was the most wrong in the incident?
Dumb decision by Miles. But agree, don’t mind the team response as long as we don’t do dumb stuff to get players missing games.
