Lamelo questionable after shootaround. Sore right ankle. I don’t even know what else to say except if he tweaked it today in shootaround he should sit tonight.
He has looked a little gimpy on it a couple of games already this season. I am concerned.
Well, I nailed my naz Reid bet last game. I would be $300 richer if Reid got one more rebound. But nooooo the hornets had to suck so much bench was cleared with like 9 minutes left in the game. I’m definitely not bitter. At all. Not at alllll. All good here!
So I’m going back to the PF/C well tonight with Stewart. I’ll need 12+ pts, 10+ reb, and 3 blocks from Duren. Another bet that seems pretty reasonable.
Let the suffering continue! The pistons beat us up and stole our lunch money last year, and without our centers I don’t see how that changes.

Nice to have our big 3 all step up and play well together. Very encouraging to see Lamelo take over down the stretch despite not playing particularly well prior to that. That’s what superstars do so it’s great to see his continued evolution towards becoming one.
Hope Miles is good. Was definitely thinking ACL the way he went down but I can’t imagine they would’ve sent him back in the game if there was any concern of something serious. That’s the version of him we need to see. Hope last night gets him going.
Great redemption for Brandon after the TO, but again, no way we would’ve gotten away with that much contact on the inbounds. Thought he definitely got hacked.
I thought Taj was huge for us. I feel like he’s our best option as a pseudo-big until Mark or Nick is back. Actually wanted him in down the stretch instead of Grant. Good minutes from Grant though, and Cody as well.
Found myself saying that a few times last night. To quote Rodney dangerfield, “don’t get no respect round here”. An appropriate quote for how refs officiate hornets games.
Looks like Bridges had a good game. Can we trade him for a center and backup PG real quick before he regresses?
Awesome to feel what thrill and excitement feels like for once. Is this our version of what a playoff win would actually feel like? No, I’m sure there’s more satisfaction and accomplishment when that happens. It’s only been 22-23 years since I’ve felt that, so I’ll enjoy my sugar high.
Melo is on that tier 1 ability. He doesn’t have the refinement or tight control of the veteran superstars yet, but actual playing experience will encode that into his DNA. 3 big time baskets at the end, to answer all of Detroit’s shots, and makes it look easy. Great vision on a few passes, 15 points in the last quarter… seems like all the ingredients of a closer. Now, about how to get those superstar calls like Trae or Tatum… might have to invest a few of his millions into the Referee Bailout Superstars Call Fund (Ref BS Call Fund for short).
Grant does seem like that annoying, overly aggressive hustle player at every gym who ends up hurting somebody because they don’t know how strong their tree stump bodies are. I guess the difference is, the gym bros aren’t getting paid for it, and Grant only survives in the league because of it. I did like them going to him in the post a couple times, this could actually be a nice little set design for him to body someone and kick out like they used to in the 90’s. But he still makes at least one to two egregiously dumb plays a game. Maybe he’s making up for Nick’s absence.
Miles finally arrived for the season, seems to have his hops back. Glad he’s a good free throw shooter.
And I love this for Miller. 3’s looked decent, a few just didn’t drop. Was really impressed on a fast break he took upon himself, attacked with pace and got enough leverage to get an easy basket. Really liked his never give up mentality on the game winner, knew how to get right to the ball through the box out. And the reaction with Melo jumping on his back and everyone getting hype… this is the type of early season stuff that builds that tight locker room of special seasons, of how to create that bond between co-stars.
They’ll probably keep struggling without any center depth, but the team shows such grittiness and resilience, they’ll stay in the middling .500 range until help arrives in hopefully before Christmas. Or maybe New Years? Groundhog Day? Tax Day?
This is the part that had me most excited. I think we’ve all been waiting on him to have a game like this. We know he can put up tons of points and make flashy passes in games where we lose by 10 or 15. But the way he took the game over in the 4th quarter, showing the poise to know when to pass and when to shoot, being smart in his shot selection, not just settling for long 3s but attacking the basket when it was there, and efficiently making clutch shots that led directly to a win, that’s bona fide superstar stuff. That may be the most impressive game I’ve seen him play.
