Jeez I’m not blaming him. Just saying that that’s likely the first step to winning. The team has the potential to be pretty good when he’s on the court.
If the injuries continue then Cliff’s concern will be mostly fulfilled by LaMelo himself. Wouldn’t make it necessarily anyone’s fault.
Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. The Hornets should be looking into chronic ankle injuries aka Curry and others. Who knows if they are. I don’t trust them concerning player health, but I may be just exasperated with it all after this season.
You have to factor in health at some point, especially with another body of his DNA having such issues. Obviously, it’s not a fault issue, but we need to know he can be on the court if we’re going to max him.
I wouldn’t use a roster spot on someone who won’t be able to play again. But I would definitely invite him down, find a role on the team. If he wants to get into coaching, add him to the staff and help him move up the ranks. Team ambassador, front office stuff, consultant, Melo whisperer, I think that would be cool. Seems like a sharp, good guy.
The Jordan/intern comment? meh. People are looking to make Jordan out to be worse than he is. He’s made some bad picks. He’s made some good picks. So have most GMs. I’ll die on injuries have been the biggest problem for us the last few years, though signing GH who has an injury history to a big contract didn’t help that situation.
I think it’s folly to think that somehow the shroud of bad decision making is over and now we’re going to be making A+ expectations for the foreseeable future.
Okay, I was hoping that folks would pick up on the comments about Melo possibly forcing a trade in a few years if we continue to lose. That puts a lot in context: not selecting Scoot, his friendship w Miles and even Cliffs comments about us needing to win to keep Melo.
We are getting warning signs and we should take them seriously.
No we aren’t. Melo didn’t say shit. Bill Reiter said shit. And what he said is the standard that every sports fan obviously knows without saying. As a small market, if you ever get a big star, you better win or else they may ask for a trade.
Zero ground breaking. If we suck and he follows the same pattern that other stars have, then he does.
He literally just signed his extension. People clamoring he would never re-sign. Now that he re-signs, it’s still sky is falling nonsense. Can we enjoy the rare nice things this franchise gets without acting neurotic at every action?
Read @Chef’s posts on the subject. It’s what we all fear as a potential reality.
I posted about the timeline I believe we’re now set on, which is playoffs next season, second round the year after, at minimums, or I do think that prospect will start to feel very real.
LaMelo was always signing the deal. Now it gets real.
I think if we build somethung with potential over the next few years that Lamelo will want to stay long term but it depends on how some guys develop and what happens with Terry/Hayward/PJ/Miles etc. Lots of unkowns right now but winning would help, which I think we can do
If Melo stays healthy and Mark and Miller develop as expected, that’s a good possibility. If that happens, I think we’ll have a better chance of signing some good vets and building a competitive playoff team. Right now it seems like those guys aren’t interested in coming, so we overpay to keep our decent players.
I believe it is all up to miller being the player he can project to. If he just meets expectations, I would expect melo to hang around. If he exceeds, this could be a real team.
