Rest of the Association: 24-25 Season

Looks like they used the Mikhail Bridges deal for the Knicks as a template

I ended up writing a bunch of stuff, but deleted it. Don’t want to clog up the thread with long rambling stuff. See my other thread for it. I’ll clog up my own thread instead.

If this is the start of a fire sale, then it will be fascinating to watch!

Nice things (ie Desmond) will cost money. The question is how much money/capital do we want to spent to keep up with the Southeast division.* The fact that folks are balking at how much Orlando paid is not a good board indicator.

The fact that Orlando was willing to give up so much capital sends a very clear message. They aren’t just looking to win, they are looking punch dudes in the doom to win. I would say more power to them but we are one of those dudes.

What other dramatic steps are they going to take to win in the next few weeks? The off season hasn’t really started and Orlando is already leaving us further behind. I am more disappointed at the fact they they just got a lot harder to beat.

*And I am not talking about trading our first potential super nova since Glen Rice.

For the sake of entertainment, I hope the Bame trade sets off a cascade of fun trades. I’m hoping some GMs have itchy trigger fingers and pull some fun trades.

One I find particularly amusing is the KD situation and the Suns. Phoenix has a new GM this year. And wow, what a shit position to be in as a new GM. Reportedly, the Suns made it clear that they were looking to recoup a trade package similar to the assets they gave up to acquire KD.

Which is hilarious. We have our own misery here in Charlotte, but at least we’re not PHX. Yikes

10bln for the Lakers. They beat Boston again lol

Wowzers. I said it when Jordan sold. I think these sports franchises are at the top of their market.

Ouch

And, since the TV deal pays the teams based on the contract they signed, not on day to day viewership, it’s pretty much entirely irrelevant to the teams or the NBA. Only one hurt by this is ABC.

Yup. I can’t believe these networks allow themselves to be bent over like that.

I listen to jason Whitlock and he had a really good point. It’s all about international viewers paying for various subscriptions to get access to NBA. IOW, it doesn’t even matter to ABC or espn if Americans watch as long as subscribers in China or India or Russia buy Hulu.

At least at the moment. It might hurt in the next negotiations.

Well, not really. A) there’s no reason to think they will cite Game 5 of 2025 as a viable argument to lowball the league in 2035 (these are long-ass deals) and B) if they do, the league can point to the fact that teams flush with money will have the higher likelihood of being in future finals.

These finals have been fun to watch for me, but I’m all for the small markets of course. It’s refreshing

How do the Thunder have 9 assists, 42 minutes into game 6?

I have enjoyed this finals too.

Checking in on Coop:

Hails to the yeah!

I’ve really enjoyed this finals as well. It is very much a true basketball nerd sort of finals

I wish the NBA would allow this level of physicality. It looks more like 2007-2015 basketball. Perfect level of physicality without suffocating skills.

Yeah it’s been really refreshing to watch. I really wish we could build our team like the pacers and Thunder. If Melo could stay healthy and we could surround him with versatile guy who can defend. I’d love to see it. I just don’t think he’ll ever stay healthy.

Cool cool cool

Honestly a pretty good deal for the Rockets, rare non overpay for a superstar
