“Here’s my ultimate sell to you guys on why I like Liam McNeeley so much. Ultimately, you’re taking the bet on what he could be. As I have it in the title of this piece, I think it could be some sort of modern-day variant of Glen Rice.”
GLEN RICE BABY. HORNETS FANS WAKE UP I SAID A NAME THAT MAKES US ALL FEEL GOOD AND STUFF. #nostalgia
I fully believe his shooting was an anomaly while at UConn. And it had to do with role as well. Check out these high school outside shooting stats:
“McNeeley graded out in the 93rd percentile on all jumpers, the 92nd percentile on catch-and-shoot jumpers, the 91st percentile on guarded catch-and-shoot jumpers, the 94th percentile on unguarded jumpers, and once again in the 25th percentile on dribble jumpers. Weakside, off-ball shooting was an elite skill for him in high school, and the numbers clearly back that up.”
Haven’t been nearly as interested in him as the other three, but after watching some video, it’s possible he’s the best of the 4 in three years isn’t it?
Dude looks like he could have a pretty high ceiling in this era.
Get excited about McNeely here. You get to see him score over Kalkbrenner and free agent signed Jemiya Neal(who reminds me a little of Stephon Castle? But that includes subpar collegiate 3-point shooting).
Damn. Looked really good and that’s an encouraging showing. I think the nba really overreacted to his shooting season at UConn. I heard he was battling mono during the season and just didn’t look himself at times
Yeah I’m definitely not getting carried away with analysis or making future projections based on summer league stuff. It’s just fun and exciting. Summer league does at least provide a small glimpse and skillset and potential. Not worth getting carried away.
I’m just glad to see that we found the new Larry Bird at pick 29 in Liam McNeely. Such a relief.
Aside from the obvious stuff he did well, I love that he seems to play with a swagger and a confidence that you can’t teach. He also seems to have a command of the nuances of the game. Definitely excited to see more of him.
