The thing that’s more exciting is his rebounding and assists. Scoring, whether really high or really low, is mostly meaningless in Summer league. A lot of scoring is dependent on who gets to handle the ball, and whether they want all the shots or not. Good scoring can be skewed by a hot streak on a small sample size. Josh Selby was a Summer league MVP, averaging 24 points while hitting an insane 27-42 from 3.
…and didn’t do shit in the league.
But Liam’s rebounding numbers show a nose for the ball, a willingness to go down there and mix it up to get them, knowing the angles they come off of. His passing stood out because it shows he knows how to read the floor, how to take advantage of mismatches/cross matches, and always having his head up looking to make the right play.
The best players make the game look easy. Not saying he’s the best, and he might have a crappy game or 2 in the Summer league. But he made 22, 12, and 6 look like easy work for him out there. That’s what a true connector looks like, someone with a natural, intuitive feel of the game. Really looking forward to seeing if he can keep building on this.
