Thanks everybody. Thank you for giving me something to grasp onto. Anything. And I like that. What if he can play small ball 5. That’s a nice lineup touch, especially if he can improve his three point shooting a bit. Which is weird because he mechanics look pretty solid.
Obviously any NBA player’s highlights are nice. Salaun’s highlights are tantalizing. They should make him a highlight reel with John Lennon’s “Imagine” as the music.
Before 2019, a Salaun is easily being listed at 6’10", because shoe wearing height was acceptable. I also think it was generally accepted to list a player and inch taller if he was super lengthy. I’m glad we have a stricter standard, but it’s ironically distorted our views of these players’ heights somewhat. Especially those of us born in the 20th century.
Obviously, it’s all about the height you can play.
I looked it up as I was curious and he was super close to the same measurements as Moussa
PLAYER | POS | BODY FAT % | HAND LENGTH | HAND WIDTH | HEIGHT W/O | HEIGHT W/ | STANDING REACH | WEIGHT (LBS) | WINGSPAN |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Moussa Diabate | C | 2.70% | 8.5 | 10.5 | 6’ 9.25’’ | 6’ 10.25’’ | 9’ 1.50’’ | 216.6 | 7’ 2.50’’ |
Tidjane Salaun | PF | -% | 8.5 | 9.75 | 6’ 8.75’’ | 9’ 2’’ | 217.4 | 7’ 1.5’’ |
Yessir. Salaun has a higher standing reach than Diabate, a measure I favor over wingspan for bigs, since play is so vertical near the bucket.
Interestingly, Plumlee(#3) Diabate(#16), Dinwiddie(#27), and Salaun(#89) are the only current Hornets in the top 100 for FT attempts per FG attempts last year. Dinwiddie is a skilled veteran, while the other guys are super active. You had to play 58 games to quality.
Imagine a big man trying to chase Salaun all over the court. It’d be over. I hope the Hornets see his big man potential.
I wonder what Anthony Teachey’s standing reach was.
Not to mention, it’s more than possible that Tidjane has grown since then!
Some recent-ish NBA bigs who measured with a LOWER or equal standing reach to Tidjane:
Andre Drummond (lower)
Anthony Davis (lower)
Jusuf Nurkic (lower)
Tyson Chandler (equal)
Al Horford (lower)
Kelly Olynyk(lower)
Cody Zeller (lower, of course)
People have to start thinking of Salaun as a long-term 4/5 instead of a 3/4.
That is interesting. Didn’t realize that. Yeah, 4/5 is probably his best position.
Then I need him down low not playing a bad interpretation of a sf
Can’t argue with that. Or I just see it as he needs to be the five man on a five out offense. He’s definitely a bad interpretation of a small forward at this point.
I was impressed with Tidjane last year defensively and staying in front of his man. If he smooths out his rough edges he could be a 10-15 year guy. Also he has a unique feel that is unteachable, and a motor that is infectious.
I wondered the same as he was quite young at the combine
That is hardly on him
Correct. I am not a fan of the offense. I do hope they modify it from the Boston run around and chuck threes offense
Please! More variety in the game, especially offensively, is much needed.
My hope is that a backcourt of LaMelo, Sexton, Mann & Kon will ensure we don’t simply attempt to ape Celtic’s ball. Ball movement, playing what’s in front of you & variety.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but notice that Salaun’s position(if you now consider him a 4 man) is the one spot that hasn’t been added to this summer in the draft or major free agency. Perhaps that is a nod to his professionalism and potential.
I think it could be viewed as a conscious move (roster-wise) of moving Miles heavier to the 4 than the 3. Or it could be the position where they are collecting all the guard assets to make some move to improve depth. It would seem odd that we are rolling with 9 guards, 5 small forwards, 3 centers, and 1 power forward.
Miles should be a 4 so that’s good. The less perimeter touches for miles the better
Chef, what type of 5 man would you like to see next to Miles? Obviously the interior D is going to be a little weak with Miles at 4.
Maybe we just want to do energy run and shoot chaos. I’m here for it if it entertains.
I would actually try to coach Miles up to play more like a traditional power forward. More like a Charles Barkley type
One of the easiest things to teach is interior defense. It’s about rotation and paying attention to the ball.
Think more like Julius Randall for a current equivalent. Or the way jabari Parker used to play.
