The problem is, the peak of the team was always first round fodder. The talent to make any noise in the playoffs was never enough, maybe they could push a game 7, or shock the world and make a short lived 2nd round appearance if everything fell into place perfectly.

But the point of building a team is to get a playoff caliber roster, then make the changes and improvements over the years to become a conference contender, then league contender. Mitch for whatever crazy reason decided that what he created was good enough. Even if they had ever made the playoffs, it was incumbent upon him to keep adding to the roster, make better fits, better complementary players, impactful free agents.

But he just said, nah. Run it back again. And again. And again. It never made sense for him to never make a move to improve the talent on the roster, whether injured or not, whether winning or not. Never proactive, always reactive.

I think you threaded that needle very nicely, and this actually captures where i am. I don’t think we should have been or should be content with the status quo. We absolutely should be looking to upgrade talent where we can and I’m not opposed to trades or swapping out players where it makes sense to do so.

I think we’re all in agreement that as currently constructed, we aren’t set up for a deep playoff run, which is the goal. But I do believe that if healthy, this is a playoff caliber team, though I’m sure many would disagree with me on that point. Where some of us may also differ is over which parts to swap out. Another point of divergence is whether there is any value in being a playoff team that lives in that 7-8 seed range. For a team that hasn’t been in the playoffs in 8 years I do see value in getting back there, even as a low seed. But I understand the rationale of those who feel it serves us better to just blow it up, even though I don’t agree with that approach. But I think you did a nice job of summarizing the various points of view.
