Hey guys, Ace had a 3/13 game to start his summer league

I am far more taken by the fact he walked out on the court and my youngest and I both thought he looked like Captain Mal

What questionable athleticism looks like at the NBA level.

What did the coaches see? I am pretty confident that Kon made a case to be 3rd string:

2
Collin
Pat/Curry
Kon/Liam

3
Brandon
Josh G/Josh O
Kon/Liam

One summer league game is not much to go on but Kon needs to get in gear. He was the 4th pick in a stacked draft class.

I am sure that the players are encouraging him.

God help him if he hasn’t been looking good in scrimmages.

This is very definition of overreaction. It’s summer league, it’s literally the least reliable data you will ever have on just-drafted players in their first year. Hey Chat-GPT, tell me about the sure-fire data you can derive from summer league (let alone first games)?

  • Eddy Curry (2012) - Curry had a strong Summer League debut, but struggled with weight issues and defense in his rookie season. He has since played in the NBA and overseas, but hasn’t lived up to his full potential.

  • Jimmer Fredette (2011) - Fredette had a strong Summer League debut, averaging 17.6 points per game. However, he struggled to find consistency in his rookie season and has since become a journeyman player.

  • Kobe Bryant (1996): Bryant averaged 7.5 points per game in the Summer League, shooting just 38% from the field. However, he went on to become a 5-time NBA champion and one of the greatest Lakers of all time.

  • Dwyane Wade (2003): Wade struggled in the Summer League, averaging 6.3 points per game on 38% shooting. However, he went on to become a 3-time NBA champion and one of the greatest shooting guards in NBA history.

  • Chris Paul (2005): Paul averaged 5.8 points and 4.8 assists per game in the Summer League, but showed flashes of brilliance. He went on to become a 11-time NBA All-Star and one of the greatest point guards of all time.

  • Russell Westbrook (2008): Westbrook had a rough Summer League, averaging 3.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. However, he went on to become a 9-time NBA All-Star and one of the most dominant point guards in the league.

  • Joel Embiid (2016): Embiid played just 5 games in the Summer League, averaging 13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, but was rusty and struggled with fouls. However, he went on to become a 3-time NBA All-Star and one of the dominant centers in the league.

Geez, take a breath man

Chat gpt forgot about Anthony Randolph

It was really Duck AI, maybe the privacy of Duck thought better than to temp EU GDPR by bringing him into the thread. j/k

Didn’t see the game, but if I read the stat sheet correctly Kon had 4 assists and was a +6 in the +/- category on a terrible shooting night, when we know shooting is usually his best quality.

For those who saw the game, is it fair to say that he helped his team win while his shot was not falling?

I was satisfied with what he does on the court

Summer League Wild exciting has generally been a terrible way to indicate the future success of a player. Some guys who will never make it in the NBA light it up, while future superstars play terrible.

Let’s not forget after a few games in the Summer league, Scoot Henderson was looking like Russell Westbrook, while Brandon Miller looked like a bust.

Absolutely. I’m not making any deep meanings from summer league, I just like watching it. Summer league is not particularly helpful for future success, but it’s not meaningless either. All I’m looking for in summer league is flashes of talent and players who possess potential. Nothing overly prognostic though. No long term player outcomes, but at least see the potential to work with

For instance, via the clips I watched, Salaun looks for confident and has taken strides. Mcneely is a bucket and straight up shooter

“Fuller” type of highlight reel, including missed shots, etc. I don’t see any unfixable problems in this. Of course, it could leave out his defensive concerns.

Sure, but we know sure as shootin’ that tonight vs. the Sixers, Liam could go 1 for 10 with 3 TOs and nothing fun to stare at stat-wise and we shouldn’t take that to mean he slid away from what we saw last night. He’s very likely going to have their attention tonight, as will TJ and KJ, that could mean a very different result.

Bottom line, to Chef’s point, how they play in a SL roster is often not how they will fit in with the varsity squad. We just cannot glean too much from this stuff. What is great, and wasn’t something we could say for years, it’s nice seeing our draftees physically able to play in SL.

Welp I’ve been reading these boards for at least 7 or 8 years and that is by far the funniest thing you’ve ever said because it hit a nerve. (Indeed, I am dealing w AI bots at work.)

I said one game is not much but he needs to get it in gear. With the 4th pick comes heighten scrutiny. If I recall correctly he did have a positive +/- number last night but the eye test, which is the standard that governs this board (to my objections), was not good.

Again one summer league game. Let’s see what he does next.

Does anybody know how Kon has looked in practice?

I’ll give my close friend Charles Lee a call and see what he says.
