MJ selling team 2023?

LamarMatic made my probably most watched basketball video of all time.

To this day whenever I’m having a bad day I sometimes throw it on to watch some sweet post moves to Paul Simon

This article is just insane

How is it that we know that Jordan got caught up in bad investments and needed money. Thus retaining 49% he didn’t want out as much as he needed money. Btw he partially cashed out at 10x.

I fell for that one also. Not my best moment and I like to think I’ve learned from it.

Adding this to my self-medication list.

I’m not so sure new ownership means new spending. These guys may need an austerity plan for the foreseeable future. That would suck, but who knows.

Still thinking Jordan is selling 2nd rounders this year. A few extra millions is nice, even when your selling for (cough) billions.

I would think any approval of the sale would include some expectation that you’ll buy the window coverings and furniture post sale. Hell, look at Ishbia’s wild spending.

Locked on Hornets says they are doing the opposite. They are looking to spend money.

With all respect to Walker and Doug - these new guys don’t have that much cash to spend. So we’ll see! I hope you’re right. Maybe they’ll take out a second mortgage.

Officially approved. Plotschnall season has commenced.

Ok cool… now let’s do something.

This is not David Tepper.
Net worth
Plotkin 400 million
Schall 5 million
7+ other minority

Public Net worth estimates are guesswork and often off a lot, but all got now…have to be higher for nba approve 3 billion.

Interesting
Plotkin played by Seth Rogan in Dumb Money, about losing billions (500 was MJ) and company failing.

Maybe this is what the players were waiting for. Will PJ sign tomorrow? I have hopes!

PJ at a bit above MLE, yes.

14-16 was always my thinking, and it looks like the low end of that is the peak of his market value.

While he may not be a starting level player on a playoff team, I think he could get there (4th/5th option). But there aren’t too many players as versatile as PJ … 3&D #4, can switch onto a good number of #3s and #5s, can play small ball #5, move the ball pretty well, not solely an off ball player, and can help us get down to an 8-man rotation.

13-15 for four years and I’ll be happy. Plus, PJ under contract would give us protection against Miles’ potential/likely departure at the season’s end.

That Sporting News article is severely lacking. Obviously you can’t buy something for $3 billion and not be anywhere close to that value.

Gabe at $400M 2 years ago, but is now head of new investment firm. Whatever you think of the morality of his investment plans, he is good at gaining money. GameStop was perfect storm, once in a lifetime event. But hedge fund or investment CEOs always seem to be able to get into the billionaire range quick.

Rick Schnall of course is valued way more than $5 Million. If he invested that full amount, out of $3B he barely qualifies over .1% of the team, nowhere near being one of the majority investors.

He’s been a board director of several companies, the $5M seems to only capture one of his stock holdings. I’m sure he’s got the majority invested in random other places.

The People’s Champ J. Cole is worth about $60M himself. Don’t know if its high enough to have any say in the direction of the team, but as a local guy and maybe my favorite rapper, I hope he does at least lend a prominent face to the team. Could definitely help with the marketing, promo side, give the team and town a cooler vibe.

Ultimately, my hope is that, anyone who spending or investing $3B into a company isn’t just getting it for status. You wanna do something with that, make a big splash. Sitting on your ass isn’t going to increase the value of the team.

I thought very much the same. If one can become part majority owner in a franchise valued at 3bln with only 5mln cash, let me buy 250mln worth of the franchise by trading in my car.

LOL, maybe he only had 5mln

If our new owners are now less rich than MJ then this will just be the most absolute Hornets thing in the whole world so it fits

As suspecting, sporting news link I made, article about a wrong Richard J Schnall, much more financial sound is Hawks minority owner Rick Schnall.

Knicks said no “because of Schnall financial history”, not seeing the smoke especially compared to Plotkin fire…lost billions & facing SEC & investor client investigations.
