i am thinking 27 + Miles to detroit for #5. probably needs a 2nd too. but i just wouldn’t want miles anywhere near a young team.
I could go for that.
Edit: Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I read where miles can’t be a sign and trade this year. Would have to be a trade deadline move or next off-season.
Reminder that drafting for fit is the reason Golden State chose Wiseman over LaMelo which ended up being to our benefit. You choose talent over fit EVERYTIME.
Yes, proposing this for a while.
If we keep Scoot, we do not offer max to Mello…or better phrase we will not keep at max.
Not discount I also have fantasy of new ownership and direction, Mello leveraged by pick and happy take a lot less,
Hornets keep both potential superstar franchise lead guards.
Spitball
Orlando 6, 11, future picks, Bamba, …
…oh he’s gone, some other combo of picks, Issac & Anthony
for our
Kobe…oops mean Mello/Scoot, 27
Edit: all Orlando stuff & more/other for multi team trade to get a LaVine, Beal, etc instead of a Divac
Landing the #2 pick and the potential addition of scoot Henderson has really expanded our horizons for off-season possibilities.
Woo boy lots to sort out.
.
I don’t see the issue with playing Scoot with Melo.
They’re ball handlers, but they score in different ways. Completely different scorers.
Melo shoots a lot of threes and can use his size near the rim. Melo doesn’t have a mid range game, and he’s not aggressive about attacking the rim. Not a physical slasher like a Ja Morant.
Scoot isn’t quite the shooter Melo is, but attacks the rim HARD and has a superb mid range game. He’s strong and can be physical, really muscle to the basket. That is not true for Melo. Scoot is a physical finisher, whereas Melo will try to avoid contact.
If you think about it, their games actually compliment each others, and I think it would take pressure off of Melo to have another facilitator on the floor. And plus, if one of them gets injured we automatically have a competent PG.
You guys are gonna be so upset when Mitch drafts Miller. I’m waiting for it.
Do not trust them. They are cheap and bored.
My off-season wish list:
New Ownership
New GM
Scoot
Would like to see, I do believe Superstars could do it.
But have doubts that we would pay to do it.
we can draft Miller, don’t have to deal with above
Or better trade SGA down for Cam Whittmore and other stuff.
Having the #2 pick has added value to this franchise and may help finalize a sale to a new owner. A new owner will probably keep everything status quo but there may be big shakeups after next season.
Having Wemby REALLY would have been interesting in this context.
Off topic though, sorry.
Didn’t happen anyway. But maybe now that the lottery is settled, the team can be sold. MJ was likely holding out for a potential premium price.
Keetch with a fine three post spread
Another consideration to have… and let me preface by saying this should not take precedence in deciding the best player to draft…
But IF things were equal, even though I have Scoot ahead based on both talent and future potential, but presuming they were close - the marketing and exposure potential with Scoot is exponentially higher than with Miller.
Scoot already has a great nickname, longtime following online, and the explosiveness and flashiness to get all the attention. With Melo already having that superstar spotlight, Melo AND Scoot would definitely be the most popular tandem of the teens and under crowd, and probably one of the higher selling tickets for people wanting to see them play.
He could even be the alternative to Ja for all the people who love flashy little guards, but are tired of his antics.
If they become a playoff contender, then there would be more tv games put on, more presence online, with highlight videos galore, top jersey sales, actual discussion of the team on tv shows that aren’t making fun of us…
Miller, even if he’s pretty good himself, would create none of that. And because of what happened in Alabama, I bet he’s probably always gonna keep a lower profile and not be to open and available.
So from a marketing standpoint, combined with the on court talent an potential, it feels like a no brainer to me, even though Miller would also slot in perfectly with the team as a silky smooth shooting 3-4.
Fixed that for you
I wish I could find the interview/article, but we already reached a point where LaMelo said the ball wasn’t in his hands enough. Maybe after his rookie year? He wants the ball, plain and simple. But Scoot will absolutely need to be a PG to be effective. So it’s gonna have to take some innovative and open minded coaching to keep both these guys happy, if it’s even possible.
I mean, it could be fun to watch, but we’re asking Melo to be off ball in crunch time, or for Scoot to line up for a 3 point brick in crunch time.
This from Sam Vecenie of the Athletic. He has the Hornets taking Henderson in his new mock draft.
Copying here because of the paywall:
“Henderson is an explosive playmaker who has been seen as the likely No. 2 overall pick behind Wembanyama all season. In many other drafts, Henderson would be the clear No. 1 pick. He’s going to be a difficult problem for defenses to solve from the first day he hits the NBA because of how well-rounded he is in ball-screen actions. He can pull-up and hit floaters, he can get all the way to the rim and finish with authority or touch, he can play slow or fast, and he can make high-level passing reads. On top of that, he’s going to force the action in transition and drive easy points that way, as well as be the guy from day one who sets the tone for your organization as the top dog on the team because of his competitiveness and drive. This is truly an elite, franchise-altering prospect. No. 2 is no consolation prize in this year’s class.”
Then he continues with the Fit:
“I love the idea of putting Henderson in the backcourt with LaMelo Ball. It would create one of the most exciting, up-tempo attacks in the NBA with how good both players are at pushing pace. But more importantly, they complement each other well. Both have the ability to blend scoring and playmaking together, but Henderson tends to think more about the scoring side of the things, and Ball thrives as a creative decision-maker who can make high-level passing reads from any angle. Henderson’s elite midrange game would complement Ball’s 3s and layups approach. And I would bet Henderson’s overall competitiveness and attitude will really vibe with the intensity coach Steve Clifford brings. Don’t rule out Miller here, though. The team does have a significant need on the wing long term. This will be the swing point of the top five.”
I think they can co exist. I think they’re both smart enough players to be able to do that. I really do think that having another facilitator out there would help Melo, and take pressure off.
I think you misread LaMelo though if you begrudge his desire to be top scorer. I think the man loves to be top dog. I place great responsibility for him to make this work. Tread carefully.
I haven’t read anything about Melo wanting to be a top scorer. I’ve only heard Melo talking about being a team first guy and focusing on winning
