Summer League Thread

Yeah! Sure! Gordon Hayward style!

???

Hopefully you read my comment as encouragement. I was not trying to offend.

My heart goes out to you family.

Hey man I’m just making a joke haha. I think you’re misreading hah. I was trying to make a hornets joke as a funny. My brain is on autopilot mode man. I appreciate your kindness. I thought the Gordon Hayward injury joke was absolutely a funny

Anytime I can work in a hornets injury joke or Gordon Hayward joke in light of tragedy, I have to take that opportunity

As I drove away from my flooded home and narrowly avoiding the flood water up to my knees while carrying my cats, my only thought was, “well I guess this really solidifies the outside chance I won’t be going to Vegas and watch a summer league game.”

I thought it might have been a joke but I wasn’t sure. And you know I am trying extra hard NOT to offend folks.

I don’t think I can begin to imagine what you are going through. You have my prayers. I don’t know what is going on w this climate/weather stuff but it’s terrible. Absolutely terrible and a threat to the nation.

Side note Gordo was my favorite player in the league for YEARS before he left Utah. When he got traded I tried to get his Hornets jersey on the cheap/clearance but the NBA shop never dropped the price enough.

It was :100: a joke. I’m in autopilot right now and trying to make myself laugh or crack a joke whenever I can. I really appreciate your kindness

The guy who should have never been picked 4th

Who would you have selected 4th? Feel like baily is the only other obvious answer. I certainly would not have been happy with his behavior or play post draft

Hornets basketball! I didn’t get to watch it. Is there any way to watch the game? I missed it

Likely the ESPN app as we were on the Deuce

The pre/post draft posturing wasn’t a thing for me. Who cares where he wanted to play. You play where you get drafted or you don’t play at all. The only reason guys engage in those antics is because teams buy into it.

I didn’t want Kon but I’m trying to keep an open mind. No one’s career is determined by one SL game so he’s not a bust because he didn’t play well tonight. We know he can shoot so that doesn’t concern me. But the things that were a concern still are, most notably his defense. He was the victim of several blow bys tonight. He doesn’t seem quick on his feet so I still question who he’s going to be able to guard. And if he can’t guard his position he can’t be on the floor for very long, so all that connectivity that seems to be what makes him attractive to a lot of people is no longer as valuable. What we don’t know yet is whether he can do enough other things well enough to compensate for that. Only time will tell, but he didn’t do much to allay those concerns tonight.

I agree 100% with all of this. The player can posture all they want but if they want to play they will play where they are drafted. The teams have the control in particular with rookie/young players. I get the optics argument but we’re not trying to win a public relations championship. And just as I expected Bailey showed up and has been engaged and excited to play where he was drafted. He got shade for his debut performance, but it turns out to be just as good as cooper flagg’s and better than Kon’s. Second game was a very nice bounce back and display of his potential.

I was really impressed with McNeeley who wasn’t on my radar during the draft. To think we could have had Ace or even Tre Johnson (+ additional assets in a trade back with Washington scenario) and still picked up McNeeley for shooting frustrates me even more.

But I’m in no way giving up on Kon or worried about a poor debut summer league game. The one thing I will reiterate as I mentioned before the draft is Kon is a one and done rookie and he is just as susceptible to early struggles and the need for time to develop as Ace and the others. Everyone seemed to think that was his advantage, he will be the great glue guy from day one. Guys like Sion we’re hoping can be the next Lou Dort, Caruso or Nesmith, look how long it took them to become who they are in the league. Even though he’s older I don’t think you can expect that out the gate for a 2nd round rookie.

Can we all agree that the Dave McMenamin “Pepto Bismol -chic” was a) on point and b) funny as hell? I still now want to call him LaSquishMelo after seeing that fit, especially the foam Timberlands.

Sadly PJ is not on track to get a two way much less a roster spot.

Are you going for some “small sample size theater” championship that no one else is playing? Good Lord, calm down and breathe into a paper bag for a bit

I would have found a way with all the draft capital we had to move up 1 spot. That kid may be the best player in draft including Flagg

That’s where I’ve been at all along. That said, we’ve picked Kon, and I’m 100% behind him. I mean, what’s not to like? A team first pro who, despite the first Summer League game, can really shoot and move the ball. Very high BBIQ. Foot speed and agility are my only concerns, but they are the reasons I would not have picked him at 4 and would have traded back, to 6 for example, and taken Tre + assets. I like the player, I just don’t like the value.

McNeeley has the look of a ten-year rotation player. I really like what I saw of him. I can’t see how a player with that well-rounded a game doesn’t stick on the roster for the long-term.

Argh, just when i got excited for team health
