Summer League Thread

Playing one game. Out the next. And then back in? Seems shady to me. Why push/risk it?

Just a return to action protocol. Makes sense to see how his rehabbed/rehabbing injury reacts 48hrs after the first game. Not point pushing it unnecessarily and risking re-injury or a compensation injury.

Couple thoughts on the game last night against Philly.

KJ looks pretty good. I’ve never been a huge fan and have always thought his hope was to be a third PG in the NBA. I still don’t think he has what it takes to be a good backup, but could pan out to be a good reliable third PG.

Nice seeing Salaun take over and drive to the basket the last 5 minutes of the game. He still looks goofy doing it but I love his enthusiasm and energy.

Was hoping to see more from sion James

McNeely is who I thought he was. Great scorer.

Kalkbrenner excels at what he’s good at. He’s a pure drop defender. He got roasted a few times in a row while defending a pick and roll. He tried to drop but his man the hit pick and pop threes.

Kon: not sure. Will he play next game or sit out the rest of summer league?

Edit: Kalk’s block at the end was a great example of his ability to contest shots without fouling. It’s quite a skill

He’s playing on Tuesday according to the team

Just in case you missed the game:

Yeah i absolutely missed the game. Sigh. But one of the first things I did this morning was go downstairs at the hotel, eat my shitty hotel breakfast and watch the 12 minute game recap :joy:. I’ll end up watching it again.

I hope they have fire extinguishers in the seats at the arena there in Las Vegas. Because Tidjane Salaun has been making fire in the crowd.

So does anyone know what the ā€œpointsā€ column is here. Is that how the standings for the playoff spot is determined? Not sure where that number comes from.

Is Kon playing?

Point differential is the tiebreaker

We are quite the tendinopathy play these days

Kon is going to be really good with real NBA players. He almost always makes the right play

feels like KJ putting out business decision vibes this summer. taking so many challenged shots in the paint w/ wide open teammates having good looks. ie - lack of hive mentality.

It’s only summer league, but making the simis could be a real first step toward winning and a culture change. Hope the varsity guys attend the games.

The more summer league goes on the more that basketball personality takes over. If that is the type of player you are, you better average 30

Somewhat disagree on that in this case. The team looked different on the court when Kon was out there vs not. Without tape to confirm, I assumed he was where he was supposed to be vs. some of the other guys maybe not so much. It reminded me when Nic was like that, even when he wasn’t scoring, we were spaced right when he was out there. If memory serves, KJ was pressing when Kon was on the bench.

My point was, if you’re the type of player that is focused on your shot at the expense of wide open teammates and or facilitating team movement, you better be making most of your shots.

I will happily bust my butt and sacrifice my game to get Allen Iverson looks, I’m not nearly as thrilled about doing that with Nick Young.

I think KJ generally played a very solid game. He wasn’t chucking up shots (6-11 for 19pts) moved the ball well (6 assists to 2 turns), and he played some very good defense - multiple deflections and at one point had Harrison Ingram switching teams when he had him so locked up 55 passed it to our bench. And… to me, how much he was irritating Ingram, he was getting flat out groped for a lot of the possessions and eventually got checked into the wall like he was playing the wing on a hockey team. He’s a hell of a get for a 2-way and he played some really good minutes for us last year when he had no reason to look as competent as he was (considering whom he was out there with).

I was hesitant on PJ Hall for a 2 way but he would be a better use of one than Baugh at this point, even if just for insurance purposes alone
