2023-24 Hornets General Discussion Thread

I have been begging for Coach Bud all season

Who’s next?

yeah that’s pretty shocking to me. There must have been something from within the organization to prompt this-some sort of feedback from Giannis or Lillard. I really hope the Hornets make a very strong play to get Adrian Griffin.

The whole Stotts thing started this process and Doc Rivers ended it

I’m guessing anyone not named Lamelo, Miller, Williams and maybe NSJ, are on the block. Just hope there’s not bad long-term contracts coming back. PHX seems interested in Richards. Bridges might draw some interest, if he’s willing to leave. I think it will be difficult to trade Lowry and Hayward without taking on money. I suspect we’ll end up buying out Lowry and Hayward if that’s what he wants.

I’m ok with eating the money, if we can get 1st rounders each for those. Then we convert those 1st rounders in the off-season to a star from a team with failed expectations.

It seems pretty apparent the two main goals are to clear cap space and acquire picks. Beyond that, I’m not making any bets. Melo, Miller, and Williams seem safe.

Read somewhere today Washington had teams instrested in him. Lowery a 30 million expiring could net a first for a team looking to clear space . Hayward might get intrest as well . All so read it was intrest in Nick Richards. At worst that’ is 60 million coming off the books at season end. Just hope we don’t take on bad money.

I would feel so much better knowing Mitch was gone. It honestly doesn’t sound like it.

Nice work plow! You have really gotten far!!

ā€œWell, in a trade, you can get money back sometimes, and sometimes you can get a player back. And then there are times you can get both a player and draft compensation. When we make trades, we try getting one of those things back.ā€ - Mitch, likely

We’re not done

And how about honoring the fact that Mitch Cumstein made some phenomenal draft choices???

Seriously.

We’re dealing boys!

Classic hornets! We get all the favorable calls! This article is so ironically hilarious to me considering how often we’re on the short end of the stick. Especially Melo unable to get calls other stars easily would.

I’m used to being on the other side of this story about officiating, and it’s so funny that when we’re not-it makes front ESPN. The hornets don’t get screwed by the refs: what a horror!!!

I really hope that trading Rozier opens up real playing time for NSJ. Which is possible now that McGowens is on the bad chair with coach Cliff.

But I’m sure Cliff will start Leaky Black before starting NSJ because he hates us. And fun.

As much as I don’t want Clifford coaching these guys, to me the fault here lies so squarely on "The Dude". We remind me of a chess player that fails to develop their board while their opponet heavily develops their own. At some point, your biggest pieces are pinned in while you furiously try defend your king when the other side of the board is fully in play. Even if we want to get crazy in a full sell off now, I think we’re getting cents in the dollar of each transaction. Terry was our big play and he’s off the board. Every subsequent move is forfeiting backline pieces for pawns.

I feel it is completely fair to mention that yes, terry was ā€œthe big playā€ it can’t go without mentioning that he was still owed another $60+m. He is so clearly in his prime that it is entirely possible this is as good as it gets especially considering his size and style of play.

It should also be worth mentioning that at his position and role, 20+pt scorers are a dime a dozen. Granted he is closer to 25ppg but factoring in usage and bad team, I don’t think the value of that trade was terrible in the least. Getting completely off his money was a very good transaction.

Now, all that said, have near zero confidence in ā€œthe dudeā€ and the owners to make this work and that is based solely on 20 years of fandom.

Oh, and Cliff needs to be gone today.

From 4 letter network trade preview:

Trade we would like to see: Two separate trades. Bridges to Utah for Talen Horton-Tucker and two seconds. Hayward to Golden State for Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II.

I know some here think we were shortchanged on the Miami trade but I’ve yet to see anywhere not Hornet biased who feels the same way. Murray is regarded much better around the league (not saying its actually true) and his value is supposedly 2 1sts.

Wiggins, with the salary remaining on his deal and possibly a malcontent I dont know if GSW could give us enough compensation for me to be comfortable.

I don’t see Myles going anywhere that wouldn’t have the space to sign him next season. Even then it would be a gamble.

I’m sick of Charlotte always getting bad press, so yeah we actually had a few calls go our way down the stretch but we had calls go against us as well for example Gobert’s goal tend and when Lamelo had his arm ripped away going to the basket.
Was anything really said when Miami hit the 3 when it was clearly a 2 to send it to O/T a couple of years ago, of course not it’s the Hornets

Not sure we were shortchanged with Miami. I think if we were operating from a better position, we could have extracted more, however.
