100% this. If we win with this group, it’s all gravy
I totally agree. I have zero issues with winning games given this 2024 draft class. This team isn’t going to win 20 more games this year or anything. We’re going to be just fine. Also, drafting in the 5-8 range in this draft is totally fine.
It’s also important that this group of players figures out how to win games. This isn’t a video game where you can tank completely, get a high draft pick, and all of a sudden have it all figured out the next year. These are guys that need to learn to be professionals and to do things like closing out games. Plus, they are humans who take pride in their work. If they have a shot to be decent, why play below your ability just so that you can get a marginally better draft slot?
damn guys, after so much waiting to get this roster turned over we get a glimpse of good basketball and now we have to wait a full week to watch basketball again! it’s so weird actually looking forward to hornets basketball now.
Oh, and just an aside since we’re slowing down for the all star break.
I’m guessing everyone heard there was some minor talks about Lebron going to the warriors? How annoying would that have been? The league really is controlled by a handful of players and a handful of teams. So glad we avoided that timeline.
OG Anunoby is the only guy we should sign…
With how things are going for the warriors, and moody stuck on the bench…I’d love to find a way to get Moses moody from golden state. Good size 6’6, solid defense, good three point shooter. Not a super crazy athlete or a guy who is going to create a ton of his out shots man with Melo and our point guards-that’s not a problem. We just need a solid 3andD guy at SG between Melo and Miller.
Do you sign and trade Miles Bridges in some sort of package for Moody? I’d freaking love that. He’ll be 22 in may 2024. I would freaking LOVE that.
Melo
Moody
Miller
Grant Williams
Mark
Guys, that’s a super solid young core group. I really think moody is attainable from a desperate warriors group.
At a point we’ll have 3 FRP and cap space. Do we just make a 5ish selection this year in a draft everyone considers one of the weakest in recent memory or do we make our move for that piece who takes us to the next level? Is there a player available that fits? Do we punt until there is?
Options!!!
Warriors owner recently said one of their main goals is getting under the tax. They are going to need to do a lot of maneuvering to do that which means giving up picks and young talent IMO
I mean if want:
If Boston loses again you could S&T miles and Bertans and pick platter for jaylen brown. Of course you will be paying jaylen $65m in 2028.
I for one am horrified at that type of contract for almost everyone in the league except about 4 or 5 players
Hence, why I said “package”. The league isn’t going to give the Warriors cap space for free. They can free up cap space but that comes with a price. They’re not letting klay walk. Not a chance.
I am very much not in the jaylen brown camp. That cap number you posted would give me nightmares.
I’m good on that Brown has pretty much peaked and he has no left hand
Welp, the Hornets National TV curse lives on through Brandon Miller tonight. What a shame
Moody is who I wanted in that draft, so you’re preaching to the choir here.
As you commented, he isn’t a guy who is going to create a ton of his own shots … and that’s just fine. In fact, I’d argue, it’s ideal. LaMelo is our primary ball handler, Miller our secondary, and you could argue Miles is our tertiary option … our 3&D SG has to be an off the ball player. Point of attack D, 3 point shooting, and an ability to stretch to floor to create space for others is the remit. Moody would be a decent pickup, not a needle mover, but the right sort of profile.
*To be sung to THAT annoying tune …
We need to talk about Miles …
I’ve been very clear what I think of him, as a man. Looking at him as a player, and it feels icky to be doing so, he’s playing very well. Very well indeed. His last 5 games: averaging 23.6 PTS on 45% from 3. Averages of 6.8 TRB, 5.2 AST, 1.6 TOV. There’s no way, if he carries on in this form, that he doesn’t command north of $25m per season.
I wonder … if the intel on the mother of his children is as bad as is being touted, do Schnotkin use this to justify, at least among themselves, retaining him? For the record, what he did was unjustifiable. It’s a black and white situation. Also, if he has had another child with her recently, it really calls his common sense and judgment further into question.
I still want him gone, but am mentally preparing myself that, if they can’t get full value in a sign-and-trade, Schotkin resign him.
They don’t care at all. Winning covers morality in pro sports and business all the time. Not just on the owners either. All the evidence you need is the last three games.
I went to Penn State. That opened my eyes to the whole routine. Story breaks, emotional outrage and demands of high moral ground. Then time goes by and it all gets swept away out of the collective conscious.
I still maintain I don’t want to pay miles bridges $30+ mil. He won’t sign for $20m which we already know. His production at $30m is completely replaceable just like haywards and rozier’s.
Not asking in a “oh yeah, who ya gonna get” way, but a sincere question. What might that look like?
Moses moody. Slot moody into SG and grant Williams into PF
Edit: to complete my thought here, I’d assume that GS would want to dump the salary of Wiggins or/and CP3 this off season. I really wouldn’t want to take in Wiggins for several more years at 28m. Even if that means we got moody.
GS has a mess on their hands to deal with.
Good question and definitely made stop and think “did I just say something that is completely pipe dreaming and actually not possible”.
So the answer is, I really don’t know. But at the same time the evidence is exactly what happened with rozier and Hayward. The production gets made up with the available usage.
I would say at $20m-$24m I think it’s worth taking it on. Maybe. His defense is about a 2 out of 10 and his bbiq is a -3. At 8m all day at 24m on the hornets, I just am not sure.
But to answer your question, some of his production would be absorbed from available players and other parts could be absorbed with additions.
