2023-24 Hornets General Discussion Thread

Oubre is going to drop 30 on us when we play them. I can feel it. No idea why we let cheap talented players walk. Did the same with Monk…. Who would be amazing to have on the team right now, with a different coach. We pretty much replaced him with Bouk…. Ugh…… pain

I Would have watched Oubre average shooting 20 times & getting 20 points.
I stand on soap box, if felon beater plays…after years of ocular suffering…I’m done & no longer watchable.

Miles is playing and it’s a forgone conclusion at this point. Unfortunately

Interesting that the hornets have happily allowed DSJ and Oubre walk.

So that they can be paid a whopping 2.5 and 2.8 million elsewhere respectively.

Does that mean it was going to cost significantly more than their current new salary to stay in charlotte?

Given that Cliff has revealed that Melo wasn’t cleared for contact for quite a while, and knew he was still working his way back from injury…

And the front office still refused to address PG?

I do wonder how much this front office actually wants to make the play offs. I’ve said it before we let DSJ go and he was our best point of attack defender then not resigning Kelly one of our better 3pt shooters. I get it, it would of taken minutes of Miller but c,mon our 3pt shooting this year is atrocious

I’m no fan of the front office, but DSJ chose to leave and sign for less due to a better opportunity. I would only criticise them for not resigning Kelly if they knew Cody was done.

There was a comment above about not being sure if the front office actually wants to make the playoff … I have no idea what they’ve wanted, for years. They have trod the path of perpetual irrelevance that is late lottery odds. We were very lucky to jump up and have LaMelo land in our laps and injuries presented us with the opportunity to draft Miller. Almost nothing good that’s happened to this team, and there’s precious little that qualifies, has been intentional from the front office.

I still say though if we would of showed DSJ some love to start with and not let Brooklyn show there hand i think he would of come back, i know all if and buts

Right now, lamelo is the biggest problem in terms of team success

I know this is the Locked On line of thought, but I don’t buy it. The idea that, because Mitch didn’t call him in the first hour of free agency, DSJ didn’t feel loved and left. He’s a professional and would have appreciated the opportunity we have him. We also offered him double the money and did so early in the process. I think it far more likely he saw a better opportunity, on a better team with a clear path to more minutes.

Ya I agree winning starts/ends with Lámelo and he’s struggling mightily. Just not sure what can be done except riding it out til he gets back to form tho.

Even if you wanted to move him (which I’m absolutely against) it’d be foolhardy to do it now.

FO bringing in a good 2nd PG would have helped tremendously but here we are. I really hope this new group actually tries to put a competitive team out else we won’t have to worry about Melo or any other of our promising young guys

Totally agree. I don’t know that I buy that narrative about DSJ’s free agency either. It keeps being stated as if it’s fact but we don’t know that. What we do know is that Mitch stated publicly that DSJ was going to be a top priority in free agency. We also know that we made him an offer that was above the minimum and above what BKN offered. None of that adds up to us not showing him love. Now maybe we could criticize the FO for not making an even bigger offer that he couldn’t refuse, but it really sounds like he just preferred to be in BKN, which is unfortunate for us, but of course that’s his prerogative.

Don’t read that as moving him. Although I would be all ears anytime someone called.

Read that as even though he just got paid as such, unless melo does some serious development (I am not sure it’s in his DNA) he is the third guy not 1st or second AND a primary floor general needs to be on the team. I am hoping miller becomes so good that he is it. One of those guys like Tatum, durant or Giannis that is so good that the pg has no other choice but to run everything through him.

Melo is skilled, he just can’t be asked to steer the ship.

But you can definitely count on him for game winning defensive stops though. We all saw Melo shut down tyrese haliburton…for that one possession last night.

No doubt Melo isnt a #1. It’d be great if 24 is but I think he’s more a 2 or 3. Hard to say this early tho.

Even without that #1 we can still get to where we’re a deep playoff team and for now I’d be ecstatic with that

Progress! Not sure he could have done that in previous seasons. Or should I say have the drive to

And he desperately wanted to be here. Often have we said that?

Makes no sense

It’s funny because over the summer I reflected that out of Oubre, Miles, and PJ, I’d rather keep Oubre on a cheap deal than shovel money towards the other two. This was when we were talking PJ for $20 million and multiple years, for context.

Because Miles is not guaranteed to pick right back up where he left off when he’s back. It’ll take a long time for him to get back to speed. And to reduce injury, I’m sure they’ll limit his minutes. This combined with Cody Martin being unavailable, I’d also have liked to have seen Oubre back.

I’ve said before, there’s no better microwave scorer in the league for the money he’s being paid. A little under 3m? That’s a great return on investment.

I was only half right about charlotte draft picks, at least I wasn’t all wrong.

I was also very adamant about wanting cj stoud for the panthers this year. Not a fan of dinky man quarterbacks.

Bryce: 35 yards and a pick 6 at half time

Stroud: 470 5tds. Rookie passing record
