So this is my first time logging into Hornets Planet since last season. I see you guys are discussing what the rest of the world has been talking about. It seems everyone is catching up to how I feel about the NBA. I have been trending this way for a few years now. I have still watched every Hornets game this year, but I haven’t watched any other games(I switched from NBA League Pass to the Fanduel Sports Network - not a bad experience). I have Youtube TV so I could watch other games but I keep finding other things I would rather do. I used to check this board every day, but my heart is just not into the NBA anymore. I could list all the reasons but I’m sure they have been discussed as I glanced through this General Discussion area. Anyway, just dropped in to say Hi and hope everyone is doing well. Hoping this is the last tank year and bad luck year for the Hornets and that something can be done with league play overall. Happy New Year Everyone!
If I didn’t know y’all for as long as I have (going on 20 years) I would have dropped the NBA entirely. I really enjoy this community though
100% This board has great discussions and makes staying engaged tolerable. Just imagine when they start winning, even if it’s just .500.
I gotta believe that there will be beautiful, winning basketball played in Charlotte again before I die, and I will pay money to watch it. I will get in my car, get on the light rail, take in the sights, feel the energy, and savor the game that was the biggest love of my youth(just ahead of Dallas’s Victoria Principal?). If the game had more strategic variety I would go now, to at least watch the other team and some young prospect we were yet again hanging our hopes on.
Basketball is bigger than the NBA, and I just need to integrate some shooting drills into my workouts or something. I wish there was an “Old Man’s gym” somewhere in which games are banned but HORSE is encouraged.
I get everyone’s frustration, and believe me, I have plenty of my own, both with the way the game is played as well as the state our team. I don’t watch much college bball anymore outside the tourney, mostly because conference expansion and player movement have made it less interesting, but I do still watch every Hornets game. While Hornets 2.0 has never been as entertaining as the original version, I still just love basketball and love having a home team so whatever it is, it’s what we’ve got. So I’ll still watch and look forward to the day when both the Hornets and the game in general will hopefully improve.
Edit to say that I also agree that this forum is one of the things I enjoy most about being a sports fan.
There’s actually a pick-up game at Wake with a group of mostly 40 and 50 somethings, with a few 30 somethings sprinkled in, that you’d probably like. It’s competitive but no one is over the top and it actually resembles the type of basketball a lot of us would like to see played. I usually play about 3-4 times a week and it’s great. We do actually play full court games though (no HORSE ) but if you’re ever in Winston and are looking for a run, hit me up.
They still doing this at the north gym (or whatever that’s called now)?
They are! I think they’re calling it Sutton now. Hard to keep up with all the name changes.
Man, that’s funny. Some form of that has been around since the early 80s at least. Used to be a fair bit of faculty there with some students and others.
That’s interesting. I knew it had been going on for a while but wasn’t sure exactly how long. We had to reel it in a bit a few years back as the numbers got a little tough to manage. We also don’t let the students play anymore because we’re all to old to run around with 20-year olds.
Oooooh, just heard something that makes our owed MIA pick very zesty with regard to the current Jimmy Buckets situation. IF, for some reason, MIA does not make the playoffs this year, due to them renegotiating their traded draft picks (the one for Jimmy Butler originally) with OKC, then that means that 2026’s pick to OKC is unprotected. Meaning that pick in '26 will 100% convey. And due to the Stepien Rule, they cannot convey the 2027 pick to us they owe which is lottery protected and thus it will become a 2028 unprotected draft pick. Ooo la la - that’s some spicy fun to root for MIA not making the playoffs.
Whoa whoa whoa. Timeout man. Really?? That would be great news.
The single best way to put out a fire is to have the hornets play.
ba dum tiss
Saw LoH mention this the other day. Surprising but at the same time they talked about our offense being so bad. No worries though; we’re about at the point of the season where we go on our run to get in position for the 8th pick of the draft!
You know it!
Hornets and Suns have had preliminary talks on Nurkic and Richards trade. I like this trade if it’s sending out Micic’ and bringing back Dennis Smith Jr and either Monte Morris.
Saw this earlier and on the surface I don’t love it. I don’t like the idea of paying $18 mil for a back up C when we’re currently paying $5 mil. But it will definitely depend on the other components of the trade as well as whether this is just the precursor to other moves we plan to make before the deadline.
