2024-25 Hornets General Discussion

Hopefully loading up for something

The headline says it all. And with the Luka trade it sure looks like it’s the truth as far as the league making sure the ratings markets are taken care of

IOW the sports entertainment fix is in

I only have room for one wwe in my life. It’s time to reevaluate my NBA viewing and spending habits.

Pretty sure the Warriors are linked to everyone in the nba and a few mlb players. Not to say anything is impossible though.

It’s just interesting that they are linked in this article to two players that they have zero assets to get.

Unless of course it’s a Luca style trade

The hindrance is they would have to involve a contender to move guys like Dray or Kuminga. They don’t have the draft assets to do this with us alone. …I wouldn’t think

Only one martin left. Whatcha got Milwaukee?

I’m fine with it. I’m at the point where I’ve given up on everything. I’ll take kuminga and Moses moody off their hands. And some firsts.

Everything is terrible, put me out of my misery.

Hey, at least we’re not Chicago

I was so upset. Knee that’s who we were picking but had no idea we were trading him. Same with Duren. Happy with Mark but my Lord what a miss on Shai

Yeah, but if he was here he’d probably be hurt.

Guys, I have a great idea. What if we trade Cody Martin for Lebron’s Strength/Conditioning Coach/Trainer and his personal doctor? I think this trade would take us into the playoffs by keeping our players on the court.

Trade him for one of LeBron’s full body dry ice chambers.

This team needs to trade everybody excluding miller, salun, diabate and start over

They won’t but they should

Blow it the eff up.

Get back some players who actually dress out and play in games.

I dunno man, I don’t care about Salaun. I know I know, he’s young and raw and blah blah blah. I get it. He’s just not who I wanted to draft and I’m not particularly impressed.

I’d be stoked to be wrong on Salaun, but I just don’t see it working.

If you can get three firsts for Melo you do it in a heartbeat. Even if it’s two firsts and a good player, he’ll yeah.

Kuminga and two firsts? Sure man.

Granted, to make GSW salary cap work with Melo, we’d have to take on draymond and/or get a third team involved in this circus

fine by me

I would qualify those firsts. I don’t want 3 late firsts. they do no good. i need good firsts. so i am talking to teams like houston, okc, etc. teams that have other teams firsts that could be high picks.

Yeah I completely agree. That’s another example of why it’s going to be very tricky and convoluted to trade Melo. Cap space issues, quality of draft pick compensation, which players they’ll send us that we would want, etc. I’d imagine involving a third team would be pretty unavoidable.

I just threw that one out as a general framework that will need to be tweaked quite a bit. I’ll need to take a dive at salary cap stuff over on spotrac.com

Edit: Given GSW’s salary cap situation, I don’t see how they could avoid shipping off one of Draymond or Wiggins to make a Melo trade work. Both Wiggins and Draymond have player options for the 2026/27 season, and are then UFA’s for the 2027/28 season.

Wiggins: 28m for the 2025/26 season with a 30m player option for 2026/27.
Green: 26m for the 2025/26 season with a 28m player option for 2026/27

  1. Kuminga comes with a 8m cap hit this season, and is a RFA for the 2025/26 season. And I don’t see how Kuminga would sign for anything less than 20m per season. (Which I think would be worth it)
  2. Wiggins or Green would without a doubt use their player options for the 2026/27 season. I absolutely do not want either of these guys on the team through 2027. Big no.
  3. If you factor in being stuck with Wiggins until 2027, Kuminga’s 20ish million salary, and the quality of GSW’s first round draft picks…it makes the trade less desirable.
  1. I don’t see how to make this work without a third team to facilitate.

Final thoughts, Melo’s supermax cap hit really isn’t all that bad when compared to other current and upcoming supermax deals (38m, 41m, 43m, 46m through 2028/29 season. As much as I want to trade Melo for the sake of ā€œresettingā€, the idea of being stuck with Wiggins or Draymond through 2027 makes me nauseous. I like Kuminga quite a bit, but he alone doesn’t offset the negatives. And it’s not like GSW’s first rounders will be any good, like Chef mentioned.
