2024-25 Hornets' Postseason Moves

I feel like we’ve been here before and nothing has happened… but I willl admit, Jeff has to be cooking up something

My guess is that we are a part of that massive trade we’ve been hearing about.

My guess is that the trade we will be involved in will be one that has not been even rumored yet. If we end up being in the 7-team trade (heard we may not be in it) I wouldn’t expect a “new” trade out of that, maybe one that has already been announced.

I think the 7 teamer is finalized

Yeah, there are no novel trades in that 7-team deal, it’s just a massive aggregation of trades that have already happened (crafted during this moratorium period)

Here’s my take.

I think we are going to make a trade for a young center. I have seen us being connected to Allen and Claxton (both already under controlled contracts). We have the contracts to match both with expiring deals and Green. We are guard heavy so we need to balance it out. Has everyone noticed how Pat C hasn’t been mentioned much since the trade? Pat’s contract and Okogie gets you to 20mil. Pat and Green gets you to 24mil. Thoughts?

I have “thoughts” and then, I have “fears.” Thoughts, I have a dozen. Fears, I have one huge one and it is us trading LaMelo for Zion. And worryingly, I could see both the Hornets and Pelicans thinking that would be best for both parties. I would not concur. But I can see them thinking it - bring in Spencer, Collin, and re-signing Tre are all scoring oriented point guards (maybe Spencer less than the others, but his payrate would indicate he’s third in importance).

So, if the Hornets saw point-Zion as a lead or co-lead playmaker with Collin and Tre playing off him, and hope that a change of scenery and lack of beignets would get and keep Zion clean and trim, I could understand their math. I just don’t think the odds of that working are good. And I would worry about transferring a defensive weakness from the 1 to the 4.

I agree with you there. But I am far less willing to completely give up if it’s a lamelo for Scion trade versus a trade to pair the two.

If they paired the two, I may quit

The 10 year old inside of my head wanted to somehow trade LaMelo for Zion right before the Scoot Henderson draft, thinking we were going to draft Scoot.

I dunno. They’re both headaches. I don’t know much about Zion’s rape allegations, but, smh…

I don’t want Zion and Miles on the same team, but they’re talking like Miles is a leader/culture guy or something these days. Don’t know what to think.

Personally, I’d be happy to see LaMelo go if we get at least an 80% return on his talent. Especially if the guy we get actually plays basketball games, you know, that pesky little thing they’re getting paid for…

Would pairing Zion and Miles be even worse? Thoughts?

I’m there too, but so much depends on who we get back. I’ll all for playing a fun style this season, League Pass darlings, but still ending up with decent Lottery odds. This is the last year I’ll say that, though. The big move needs to happen next year, IMHO.

Miles Bridges and LaMelo Ball for Zion and something else nice.

Neither NO nor Charlotte should go all in on just Ball/Zion. Ya gotta throw in some other guys to mitigate risk? You keep the Ball/Bridges buddies together? And we keep the players with off court female controversies on separate teams?

I love it! Except, we are Horncat fans… We already hate ourselves and just stay addicted to the pain? Its like some weird Stockholm Syndrome thing?? Let’s break the cycle this year Kitch!

Ok, playing within those lines.

But in all honesty, seeing this and the locker room erupt for Moussa’s full-roster contract last year, I am not looking to break up this roster generally.

I’ve rooted for Zion to get it all together. The things we saw in college were absolutely insane. A healthy Zion even at 80% of his college play would be amazing for the league. The play in last year offered the first real glimpse imo & boom - hammy. But so so many injuries and conditioning issues & the off court stuff is not a great look on even just past the surface. Latest allegations aside - still way too many red flags to feel comfortable. More cringe than PJ or Miles. And you know that Scott Fowler article is typed and ready.

Zion as a hornet, yikes. And Zion as a hornet with Miles - nightmare. Ball movement minus Melo & adding Zion would be a massive massive loss. Even if both are not on the court at the same time.

Id hope for more of a true big or stretch 4 if we are swinging - Allen, Sabonis, MPJ, Gafford, you could maybe even talk me into the expiring of Vuc/P will combo.

Like I said, do not want (the proposed trade above is not a want list, just a funny game of Boggle). I am rooting for nothing big happening.

Just one more, then I’ll stop! I guess the first step is admitting I have a problem.

That said, the top of the '26 draft looks really, really strong. That’s my rational for ‘just one more’. Were it not for the strength of the draft, I would be advocating for getting Bam on this roster right now.

I’ll take a fun and entertaining 30-35 wins this coming season, before making a proper playoff push next season.

That’s right and it’s all part of the plan. Use social media to change the narrative and rehabilitate the Hornet’s brand. That’s right slowly, steady and persistent.

:+1:

I still don’t see us or nor do I want us to move Lamelo.

I just hope we can at least lighten the logjam - and add a need. If more is coming.
