2024-25 Hornets' Postseason Moves

Man all of this talk about moving Melo is just wild. This board can go off the deep end from time to time and this is one of those times. Wait for the deal to happen and we will all see that Melo is still here.

I’m not necessarily opposed to trading LaMelo. I hope we give it one more year to see where he and the team are at. I am against trading him for Zion. That’s just jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Plus, I assume whatever move is made, the goal is to send out multiple players and return one and/or picks. The roster has got to shrink.

I could absolutely see Riley going all in the tank for next years draft. He has no core, Bam isn’t on a timeline for a new core. We have plenty of assets to send over.

Bam for Miles/NSJ/Pat works, with some of our 1st rounders.

Melo/Mann/Dinwiddie
Sexton/Kon/Sion
Miller/One of the Josh’s/McNeely
Grant/Diabate/Salaun
Bam/Kalk

Got shooting, speed, toughness in the lineup.

If we traded for Zion… I’d have to have Lamelo on the team. That combo just looks so nice on Paper. If Lamelo is involved, I wouldn’t do that trade.

If there is some bigger move in the works (not trying to be a dick I just don’t really buy it yet) Bam is my ideal target that could be somewhat realistic. Miami has some young pieces but they’re kind of stuck on the treadmill it feels like. They’ll always be a top FA destination so perhaps they’re gonna wait it out till they can sign someone but it makes sense for them to do a quick little reset year. Moving Bam could initiate that.

Bam fits our roster construction really well.

Walker Kessler is a name not mentioned yet that I also could see being in play.

Gotcha. I hadn’t checked today, I looked after the signing and the morning after and spotrac hadn’t updated yet. That’s pretty wild to get him for the vet min. As well as it being wild that we signed him in general.

I guess they’re trying to insulate themselves from a potential Melo injury (or trade?) and that Josh green won’t be available for a while. I think all of this has been very stock down for green.

Trading for Zion would track since we seem to want to create a Duke alumni team here. Wouldn’t be my preference given the health issues but honestly, that just doesn’t feel like the sort of move this FO would make. They just strike me as being more calculated in their thinking than to risk it all on the hope that a guy who’s never been healthy or in shape will all of a sudden become both. To say nothing of the legal stuff.

It definitely seemed clear from the recent transactions we were prepping for a bigger move, which in itself is exciting. Logically it would need to be a big. Fine with Bam or Allen but not fine with Trading Lamelo for either one of them. Not willing to part with him for anyone not named Giannis. Will be fun to see what shakes out.

Ah, Zion and Bridges on the same team. That would certainly be a uh, interesting challenge for the PR team.

I know we’re just spitballing fun trade stuff. And I’m loving it. Outside of the violence against women issues and the injury issues, a healthy Melo and Zion would be absurd. I like the idea of it from a theoretical perspective. But, the other stuff.

If Zion came to Charlotte, I’d buy stock in Golden Corral. Would be a great sponsorship opportunity too.

Miles is irrelevant because I don’t see him as any sort of foundational piece

First let me say Zion = but also for these new owners Zion = dook… so you might be on track here…

Trade Nic Smith Jr and a 2nd for Cam Whitmore.

I’m pretty sure I’m on some kind of contact high from the moves Jeff Peterson has been making. So I’m pumped up on hopium right now. If this draft class pans out, we’re going to have all sorts of cap room flexibility.

Kalkbrenner: 4yr/10m
Sion: 4yr/10m
McNeely: 4yr/14m
Kon: 4yr/45m

If these guys, or at least 3/4 pan out, the Hornets will be in such an incredible place in the next 2-3 years. Cap room galore. It’s pretty fun to think that finally, we are creating a well built, well constructed team. Maybe we can pull a Pacers/Thunder lite kind of build. The key is if Melo and Miller stay healthy and show out.

Barry Jackson a reporter from Miami thinks something is going down in Miami but he’s not at liberty say at the moment, its probably a buyout of Dame or Beal but i wondering if they’re dealing Bam

I can’t unsee what the wolves did this summer and that they aren’t going to be a 2nd apron team.

My list of trade partners that don’t involve melo

  1. Gobert
  2. Claxton

My list that does involve melo
3. Bam
4. Giannis

I am sure this a possibility of some darkhorses but 1 and 2 are so more likely than

I see Bam as someone who’s still a high level player, but he has more all-star seasons behind him than in front. It’s hard to look at him and not feel he’s peaked already. His FG% has dropped each of the past 4 seasons. That’s a scary trend considering he’s owed 51, 55, and 59 mil each of the next 3 years. That’s a lot to pay for a non-superstar who’s showing some evidence of decline.

Lamelo, on the other hand, should still have his best basketball ahead of him. Assuming good health, which admittedly cannot be assumed, there is an all-NBA level of play that is in reach for him. It’s a roll of the dice that he will get healthy enough to reach it, but the payoff if he does is reason enough for me to not swap that chance for the back side of Bam’s prime. For me, unless Giannis is on the table, we should hang on to Lamelo.

Yeah I’m with you. Jeff has made moves for maximum flexibility in the event that something goes down. I still don’t believe a huge thing will happen, but the hornets are well positioned-even as a third team to help facilitate.

But I also think that Jeff would be happy enough to go into the season with this roster.

But someone has to go. With the four rookies signing, don’t we have 19 on the roster? I think I’m wrong on the number, but I know we have more than 15 lol

Yeah I wouldn’t trade Bam for LaMelo unless there was a whole bunch of decently good pics coming with it. For all the reasons you explain. I am just basing that list particularly bam off of rumblings. Giannis is just a pure could be out of left field.

I’d love Giannis as a Hornet but i think that’s things of dreams. I would throw the kitchen sink at trying to get him 3 or 4 1sts Bridges, Dinwiddy, Pat, just not Lamelo I’d pair them together and watch them rip it up.

It’s a dream scenario for sure, but yet it’s still plausible at some level. I can’t imagine Giannis doesn’t eventually force his way out of Mil. He’s at an age where there are no seasons to waste on a team that can’t win, and Turner isn’t going to move the needle there. If he goes on the trade block, we could put together a package that’s competitive. He’s the only guy I’d be willing to trade Lamelo for, but obviously if we can keep him, a core of Giannis, Lamelo and Brandon would make us a contender, especially in a weakened EC, so it could be attractive to Giannis’ camp.

Miles, Sexton and Okogie + all the 1sts they want gives them two good players plus cap relief and the draft capital for a reset. So it’s dreaming a bit, but with the 4 additional 1sts, it’s the first time we’ve actually had the assets to legitimately get into one of these superstar sweepstakes.
