I’d give up Green, Plumlee & Dinwiddie for Vuc salaries match, yes he’s 34 but you don’t need him playing 30mins a night with Mousa & Kalk you also have Grant who can play smallball C. Vuc is Lee’s kind of stretch C he’d be really good in our system
After listening to Plowright on FNZ yesterday - maybe we ought to consider that this is actually the group we are rolling with. I still think a couple guards could be moved around - and there’s the Okogie push back to consider - but did you all say we should be able to roster everyone w/ 2 days, etc - if we did keep everyone?
The Okogie date move thing lines up with Vegas - and usually thats a semi active period with everyone in the league dropping into sin city. By late next week I think we’ll have our clearest ideas on everything.
But after a few days of chill - maybe this won’t have the fireworks expected.
No, there’s an assumption we drop the non guarantees (non two ways)
got it - so drop Jeffries, Okogie, Baugh,? that right? is KJ in that grouping too?
could the Okogie thing be as simple as seeing if we could trade Nick? And if so keep Okogie?
No, KJ and Baugh are both 2-ways. They don’t take space. We have 16 rostered currently, and 3 incoming with Tre, Mason, and Spencer. We have 3 non guaranteed full contracts; Okogie, Moussa*, and Jeffries.
*can’t see how we can cut him
I think we assumed that Sion would be a new 2-way but he was not. So today, we can not pick up Josh and Jeffries but that means we need a second and third slot open to take in all the of those (Mason, Tre, Spencer).
So we’re consolidating or just waiving someone (x2) before we need to get down to 15 full contracts.
I don’t think so… but the last time I disagreed with Plow (whom I love) we ended up drafting Salaun haha. Sticking to my guns that there is another move coming.
Logically speaking, we’re going to have to consolidate the roster or waive guys regardless
Yea. The way I see it, unless someone we brought in gets moved (if that’s possible), or it’s a big trade and a starter goes, there’s simply no room for NSJ, Green or Okogie.
PG: LaMelo - Mann - Dinwiddie
SG: Sexton - Kon - Sion
SF: Miller - Connaughton - McNeeley
PF: Miles - Grant - Salaun
C: Kalkbrenner - Moussa - Plumlee
It’ll be very interesting to see how it plays out.
I’d switch out TS for GG Jackson in a little trade even throw in a 2nd
I’ve got to say though that roster looks deep, only thing I’d change Is I’d add a C to replace Plumlee (maybee Vuc), and as I’ve just said I’d like to see GG Jackson on the team
Make it happen. The anticipation is killing me over here. lol
thanks for the clarification - so to keep all of the incoming guys - we still need to shave 2 contract guys. so there are really no tea leaves to be read if we part w/ Okogie later this week or next. mainly just curious what to expect if its on the lighter side of action.
Perhaps I’m wrong, and just don’t understand the roster limitations. But, by my count(and according to spotrac), with all the signings and trades, we have 21 players. 19 regular contracts and 2 two-ways. It’s my understanding that during the regular season you can carry 15 regular contracts and 3 two-ways. So, we’ll have to loose 4 regular contracts and can add 1 two-way. Some moves, wether it’s a trade or waive will have to be made.
From the above, we have 3 non-guaranteed full contracts; Diabate, Okogie, Jeffries. We have 3 pending incoming players in Mann, Plumlee, Dinwiddie. Even if we dropped all three non-guarantees, we still have to drop one more. But, we cannot practically drop all 3 non-guarantees because we don’t have the center-depth to cut Diabate. So yes, we need to cut or consolidate down at least 4 net contracts.
We can use the 3rd 2-way but that won’t be from anyone on the roster currently.
Thanks. So if we do make another move - a package of multiple players would probably be what to expect, unless we are able to trade players for picks. Ideally something like sending 3 players out and have 1 coming back. Or maybe a deal like Was/Hous did for Whitmore.
I guess the biggest thing is what teams would be in a position to take on more than they have currently. And the other question would be - are any of our tradeable assets be considered buyout candidates.
Still all pretty murky - so more is coming for sure - it just may not be fireworks.
As a fun though exercise, there’s a ton of traded player (and other) exceptions we could move players into. Some of these are not practical at all as a mechanism to lower the roster count and get some asset back (picks or cash).

! Would result in an impossible trade as the other team would need to send back or waive a number of players
"John Hollinger wrote a winners and losers column for the start of free agency (he called the Hornets winners by the way). But one piece of it stuck out to me.
Now, we’re seeing a new phenomenon where some teams spend the summer prepping their rosters so they can wheel and deal the first week in February: by adding middle-class contracts or giving short balloon contracts to fringe players just so there is tradeable salary on the books come winter, or by lining up future draft picks so the Stepien rule doesn’t torpedo a blockbuster trade, or by managing the tax aprons so their midseason trade flexibility isn’t compromised.
That seems to be the method the Hornets are following. The roster is prepped to swoop in and poach a big name should one become available during a disappointing season. That’s when I’d be looking for the Hornets to make a move, and I’d expect to be a big one should they make it. I don’t think a regular quality center is the goal, and I don’t think there are opportunities out there to upgrade the roster right now. So we’ll have to continue to be patient and prepare ourselves for a nice helping of Mason Plumlee minutes at center for a little while."
At least one more trade needs to be made. Either a C or a PF. The assets are there: 2nd round picks, cash, NSJ, (cap space?), etc. I would even take a dude that is good defensively and offensively challenged.
One more move. Who knows maybe we are waiting for dudes to get cut for summer league. If that is the strategy, then it’s not enough.
I agree with everything they said about lamelo except for their conclusion of not getting off of him
starts at 1:08:08 for anyone who doesn’t want to waste the time I just did - ha.
