I am sure that they tried to get something for him. I don’t want to see his 5 million get added to the dead money from Davis and that guy who played for us and then went to NO and then got traded back to us. That guy.

That is like 14 million in dead money.

So we have 1 regular roster spot and 1 two-way, currently.

Spotrac hasn’t updated yet, not sure what that number is, but it is a little concerning. Interested to see what they do from here. I wouldn’t be surprised if Leaky gets released to open up another two-way. I wasn’t too impressed with his summer.

Here here! Cheers to Charlotte hornets legend, Reggie Jackson. Can we put a frame Reggie jackson hornets jersey in the hornets planet rafters? Or have an annual Reggie jackson celebration day?

Edit: I’ll put his jersey right beside my Tony Parker hornets jersey.

He’s got to be the only guy who’s ever been waived twice without ever playing a game for us, right?

I was listening to the lowe podcast and I heard the stat that only one player has gotten the full MLE for the full years available (max length of contract) in the last four years. No one is really using MLE or non tax payer level deals either.

This is such a different free agency direction the league has been moving towards.

He was bought out so most likely 2-3 million.

I’m thrilled the new org. Is using what you call dead money to gain assets. It doesn’t count against the cap so i don’t really see the issue.

We should have been doing this all along.

Cool. Double cool that it doesn’t count against the cap. I guess it was a bigger issue during the MJ era. Do you remember all of those trades for “cash consideration”?

Charlotte Hornets: C

Snagging Josh Green for free was a nice little maneuver for Charlotte. He’s a good defensive guard, and even if he doesn’t shoot 3’s at the volume you’d like, he at least mostly makes the ones he takes. His contract was small enough to be moved again if necessary, but even if he’s just a decent third guard, the value here is fine.

Miles Bridges was an overpay. That has nothing to do with his off-court history (which shouldn’t be ignored either) and everything to do with the fact that he has thus far been mostly an empty calories scorer. He’s never turned his considerable athleticism into consistent defense. He’s a league-average shooter at best. He’s a valuable scorer near the basket but he’s not nearly good enough at creating his own looks. What was the market for Bridges outside of Charlotte? There may potentially have been sign-and-trade interest, but even that would have required Charlotte’s cooperation. It’s just not clear where else Bridges could have come close to $75 million over three years. The contract’s saving grace is that it declines in salary each year, so at least they’re getting the heaviest hit out of the way early.

Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets rightfully leaned into youth, drafting Salaün, who has as much upside as anyone in his class, and acquiring Green, a 23-year-old who cracked an NBA Finals rotation last season. Charlotte also added some second-round draft capital in exchange for taking Jackson’s deal off the Denver Nuggets’ hands.

At the same time, the Hornets recommitted to their existing core through the 2026-27 season, signing Bridges for the next three seasons. They owe a combined $97 million to Bridges, Green, LaMelo Ball and Grant Williams in 2026-27, when Brandon Miller will be in line for his rookie-scale extension. Charlotte’s success will entirely depend on the development of that core under new head coach Charles Lee, which is a fine plan, though I am not sure there is a paradigm-shifter in that mix. Maybe Salaün will be the savior.

I agree with the assessment that the FO was right to go after Tidjane in the draft. He just might pay off as the starting PF that we need.

I disagree with that author here (Mr. Ben Rohrbach, Boston native who initially covered the Celtics). I get that it’s better to sell low on the Hornets because of their track record/curse/law. Especially with Melo, because we don’t see him and the team doesn’t win, they seem to brush him of like he’s just a regular, typical guard.

They seem to forget that Melo has been putting up historical NBA numbers from the start. The scoring, triple doubles, the passing - his numbers had him on the same early accomplishment list as Luka, LeBron, Kobe…the place where legends start from.

There was a 9 game stretch before Melo first landed awkwardly on his ankle where he was averaging 32.2 points, 8.7 assists, 6.7 rebounds, and hitting 4.5 threes per game on 43% shooting. There absolutely is a paradigm shifter IFFFFFF… those ankles are good. Which is of course a consideration, but the writer didn’t make that disclaimer. Just didn’t seem to acknowledge the latent talent level, potential wild card there.

Also, if Miller’s progression continues in the Paul George/Tatum direction, which by all appearances seems to be on track, he is also absolutely a paradigm shifter.

Not saying we’ll be a contender yet, but you get two go to stars who are hard to guard at the end of games, its easier to build around that and make an eventual run if you get the right mix of complementary vets and good coaching/culture. Salaün does not need to be, nor should he be expected to be a savior, we have potentially 2 already…

Big Pat is an absolute legend!

I just saw people on Twitter saying he’s no longer with us. Horrible news

Very sad, he is as important to this franchise as anyone

Oh no, that’s terrible. I know he’s had health problems for years but I’d hoped we had so much more time with him.

Damn, RIP Big Pat. Iconic Hornet legend, along with Steve Martin, Dell, Muggsy, Kemba, Hugo…

Literally injected energy into the arena. I think there was a season when he was out, and the difference was so stark. Like it was listening to announcements at the mall.

I hope they can use his voice as sound effects for certain calls. His BOOOOMS, the no, no, no traveling calls. Whenever they need to tell Buzz City to get loud. Would be cool keeping his voice alive that way, hope someone in the front office agrees.

Maybe create a Big Pat Get Loud fan section for the most dedicated fans.

I had a chance to work with Big Pat years ago before he got the Bobcats/Hornets gig. He was a consistently good spirited guy who was always fun to be around. I remember how excited he was when he got the call to go interview for the PA position here and I was ecstatic for him when he got the job. We hadn’t kept in touch but it was always so cool to hear his voice at games and to catch a glimpse of him during the telecasts. He got to live his dream. He will be missed for sure.

I see Salaun and Green as ideal partners to LaMelo and Miller. They both work very well off ball, though Green is a better passer than I had thought. They both defend, hard. They’re ideal 3rd/4th option types who will give LaMelo and Miller the space and usage required to get the best out of them.

Likewise, I really like Mann & Grant as 6th/7th men. There’s a lot to like with the composition of this roster. Health and sound player development could well see a playoff series winning Hornets rotation emerge in the next two to three years. I’m strapped in, and I hope LaMelo’s ankles are strapped up, for the ride.
