2024 Hornets Offseason Thread

I wonder if it’s far more to do with him being a nice guy rather than him not being a very good athletic trainer. As in he wasn’t forceful enough to push players to sit out prior to worsening injuries rather than missing or misdiagnosing issues.

Could be a motivation issue. Could also be they weren’t doing enough small things that added up to keeping guys healthy.

Could just be misfortune. At any rate, safe to assume we need a new program to make sure all the small things are done right.

Mikal Bridges traded to the Knicks for 4 unprotected 1st rd picks. Let the trades begin.

That’s a steep price to pay for a yet to be all star player but I get it for the Knicks.

OG Anunoby in a S&T?! Give them Martin and one of our 1sts!

Rockets are making moves! Maybe we’ll move up to 3!

That’s what the nets have been asking all along I believe, four first rounders. He’s worth it.

Trade our 2025 1st and 2 Future 1sts for the 3rd Pick! Keep the 6th! Get Reed at 3 and Cody Williams at 6! That’d be mint!

I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of Mikal Bridges at all, I think that’s a massive overpay

I do think he’s a very good player, but he’s not the level of player that could be a #1 option on a contender. 4 unprotected 1sts plus another protected 1st is definitely an overpay for a Robin. I guess it’s worth it if this move ultimately gets them a title. But if it doesn’t they may have sealed their fate for the next decade.

I would be on the phone offering the Knicks Bertran’s contract + nic Richards + 2 2nds for Julius Randall.

Please keep the posts coming, as I’m in a huge queue for the log ride at Lego Land, while my 3 & 6 year old girls play on a pirate ship that’s there to distract them from the tedium of this queue! HELP!

What’s there not to like? He’s a great shooter from everywhere, can score, great defender, dude literally doesn’t miss games and is never injured. And is on the best contract in the league-making 24m a year for the next two seasons.

He’s 27 years old and I don’t really think he’s missed any games.

I know there’s a little talk of a Paul George trade. I wonder if we could get in as a third wheel in that trade to make things work

Mikal may be the most perfect prototype role player crafted by the basketball gods themselves. Gives you good size, length, shooting, defense, durability, IQ, passing, buy-in, unselfish, fits in with any style of play.

But @DemonDeaCat put it right, he’s a Robin. He fits perfectly with the Knicks because he fits perfectly with every team. He completes the Villanova Knicks set, which is pretty cool. But 5 first rounders, and a pick swap? Durant and Lillard didn’t get that. Paul George was crazy value, but he’s an all world, MVP contending, multiple all-star, likely hall of famer. Bridges…hasnt made the all star team yet…

That’s just too much. I don’t like the precedent being set of role players being worth 4-5 first rounders. The Knicks and OKC are smart to compile all these draft picks to do trades like this, and I’m glad to see we picked up a couple more with new ownership.

But I also wouldn’t want to trade all those picks for a non top superstar option, if we ever were in on something like that.

I worded myself a bit hastily, I think he’s a good player I wouldn’t of been mad if the Hornets traded two first-round picks for him but five feels like a massive overpay, that’s what you pay for a superstar-level player.

Mikal’s scoring and efficiency dropped significantly last season, his defense has also fallen off a cliff since coming to Brooklyn

The knicks know their fan base has been extraordinarily patient. This is a team that MUST be relevant. Those 1sts weren’t going to do anything for them that would get them closer to beating the celtics. The key no is their bigs. Hartenstein and randall were no secondary pieces for them. Especially randall. If Randall were healthy they would have beaten the pacers for sure.

Also, Brunson was so exhausted by game 5 of that series. It is so evident they need the defense way more than a superstar scorer. Bridges is just the perfect fit. I think it is a case of perfect player + perfect buyer with the available capital.

Oh yeah, I get it for the Knicks. If they keep OG (don’t know how they keep both him and Hartenstein, who may be more valuable now with Bridges), they can matchup with the Celtics as a top contender.

But if you’re trying to buy a house, and someone randomly decides to overpay by $100,000 in the neighborhood you’re looking at, I’d be pissed at the guy resetting the market to that degree.

True. But unlike real estate, i don’t think “comps” hold in nba trades. IOW, I don’t think the next glue guy, think Dort on the thunder is going to get you 5 1sts.
