The first round of the NBA draft started tonight at 8pm Eastern US. The Charlotte Hornets selected Tidjane Salaun with their first round selection #6 overall.
He knows, he posted in the draft Channel an hour prior to that post. He must want us to trade for Eddy.

I have no thoughts… just had to post. I went to a Winston-Salem Dash baseball game, put my watch and phone to sleep so I could come home and watch the draft. I just caught up to live and I have no idea if this swing for the fences is a good idea or not… but my gut doesn’t like it. I hope I’m wrong, but with this draft class… WTH!
I’m listening to the Buzz Beat live reaction show (must listen btw) and they made some interesting points. Taking a guy like Salaun that’s not helping you for at least one season, what message does that send to LaMelo? He’s entering year five, and yes he’s signed for a few more seasons but if you really want to read between the tea leaves it makes one at least begin to wonder if the new FO thinks LaMelo is a lock in this team’s core. He obviously has to get healthy. I mainly just remain surprised as this move signals the team wanting to maybe even take another step back so they can make hopefully a big leap in the future.
Said this elsewhere, but I like it that the Spurs liked him. I don’t like it that Kai 2.0 is going to have to be the one to break the French Curse here in Charlotte. Wishing the dude all the luck
All i can say is i hope that we have some trades up our sleeves.

Love the length, dunking, and 3 pt. shooting potential. But given he’s so long with a high motor, why does he block virtually no shots? That’s concerning.
Locked On made a good point that Kupchak spent a lot of time scouting international, and maybe has liked this kid for a while. Mitch would’ve turned over his notes to the organization and he’s still part of the organization.

If LaMelo has any low injury prime years left, I guess we are gonna waste them with “lean years.”

I would not be shocked if melo isn’t traded. Someone else said something in the frenchy thread about not sneaking into the playoffs and losing the 2025 first. Coupled with the “lean years” (which is so foretelling) because it is not a necessity with a healthy melo and mark, 2nd year miller, options with miles either to retain or s&t and available cap space you could pretty easily get to the play in game or late lottery odds.
I would give it a 9 out of 10 on the surprise-o-meter if he is traded in the next 6 weeks. And a 6 out of 10 sometime in Sept/Oct.
Mikal Bridges certainly added some intrigue with the payout. It also depends on what ends up happening with miles this week or next

Hornets really screwed Knecht. Most clubs thought we were taking him and then were scared off when we passed. We not only passed, we grabbed a guy we could have easily traded back 4-5 spots for. I think all of that spooked some folks

In all fairness, if they really wanted frenchy, there was no trade down. San Antonio literally traded their #8 pick for a 7 year CD with a variable rate of 6-1000%
They wanted frenchy and only him after Castle.

This seems to be the case from what I’ve heard this morning. That SAS got absolutely nothing until a swap in 2030 when Ant will be super prime… SAS just said eff-it.
Also, since MEM was satisfied to pick Edey, not sure they were trading the store to jump to 6.
