I know this is the 2nd round thread, but this kind of fits. I’d like to see the Hornets package these two picks together (or with something else) to move back into the 1st round. There’s a couple players that I’d like to see picked if the hornets indeed package the 2nds.
-If Thomas Sorber is still available after pick 20, I think he’d be a great addition.
-Nique Clifford is a 6’6 205 pound SG who shot threes at a 38% clip, averaged 9.6 rebounds per game. Yes, 9.6 boards per game. And he’s a great defender. gasp Nique is a little older!! I believe he’s 23.
If Ryan Kalkbrenner is available at pick 33, I think the Hornets have to draft him. Would be great.
After seeing a fair amount of discussion about our cap space and roster unless we let some of the vets walk Curry, Gibson etc. (which everyone says we need) and if we sign any other vets to come in… I HIGHLY doubt we take 2 second rounders this year (and I’d prefer we use the assets instead of selling them HORNETS!)
Just a prediction for the 2nd rounders. Not an exciting one. The Hornets basically do nothing fun with the 33 and 34. They either just use them them to select developmental/depth players.
Or the hornets simply kick the can down the road with them and turn them into future 2nd round picks. Or sell them for cash.
I don’t know why, but I’m expecting disappointment lol.
Yes, during the MJ years “cash consideration” would be what I would expect for one or both of our second’s. I’m hoping we can get more creative this year and find a way to package them somehow and move up.
To combine both your most recent posts, yes, we need to draft one of Maxime and Ryan. Both from a best available player point of view and a roster need.
That said, Rasheer Fleming is surely the best guy left on the board. I’d happily trade #34 and a future 2nd to get #31 and select Rasheer. Then take whoever is left between Maxime and Ryan at #33.
Obviously one of those picks will be a center. I would like some length at forward. TJ is the only length we have there. Fleming would be a nice get. A pg3 might be a need. Not sure how the team feels about KJ. I suspect that might be addressed in free agency though.
Edit: Bogoljub Markovic is an intriguing prospect.
I’m going to be really disappointed if we don’t get Fleming or make a move to ensure we get him. I can’t believe he’s still available. He’s been one of the guys I’ve wanting for about two months now.
A 6’9 3andD guy. Cmon hornets
I’d find a way to trade up to get him. He’s a great athlete and 6’9. Good solid defender. Great three point shooter 39%. Doesn’t really make his own offense or find shots for himself, but with Melo and Kon being able to pass people open, Fleming would fit in like a glove.
Sounds like a young Marvin Williams to me. Sign me up!
I just don’t think we’re adding 4 rookies to the roster. I feel they’ll trade one of those picks, or use it for a eurostash (which has never worked for us). The priority seems a big man, so it’s likely Raynaud or Kalkbrenner.
But if both fall to our picks and we snag both, then I really think we improved our prospects a lot.
Yeah that would be the most ideal outcome is for Fleming and Kalk to slide to us at 33, 34. And you nailed it! A young Marvin Williams is a perfect comp.
I’d also be fine with trading up to ensure we get Fleming. And then just sign a vet center for a year to spell time with Nurk. And sprinkle Moussa in. I wouldn’t be devastated on missing Kalk.
I think we’re all in agreement, trading up the get Flemming should be priority number 1. #34 and a future second means we’d still have #33 to pick either Kalkbrenner or Raynaud. If you can draft Flemming and one of those two, I think you have to. I don’t want the likes of Okogie and/or Jeffries to stop us from drafting viable NBA rotational players on Rookie contracts. That would be foolish, IMHO.
To come out of this draft with a SG, SF, PF & C who can all shoot and are real team first, ‘Hornet Culture’ guys would be a huge win.
Jeffries and Baugh can be cut. Micic will be bought out and overseas, so I hear. I’d actually like to keep Josh Okogie around next year at 8 million (I think that’s his number). Hard worker, tough player, and a vet. Would be a good locker room guy to keep around. I think it would be great for McNeely and Kon to practice with Okogie. I think @Eastley ran through the roster spots on another post. So I’d need to see what roster room we’re working with. I have a feeling the Hornets won’t be picking 2 players in the second round tonight, but I’ve been surprised before.
Somehow stepping away from the 2nd with Fleming and Kalkbrenner/Maxime would be incredible. But to be honest, I’m find with doing whatever needs to be done to just get Fleming alone. I know I won’t shut up about Fleming, but hes great.
Stepping away from this draft with Kon, McNeely, Fleming, and a future 1st* would be an absolute A+.
*Yeah the future 1st probably won’t be great. It’ll be the worst draft pick between three teams in 2029, but it’s still 1st round draft capital.
Baugh is on a 2-way contract which looks like it was a 2-year one (last year and this upcoming one). Jeffries is less desirable to waive as he’s got this AND next year guaranteed at 2.7m and 3m respectively. I had forgotten that IF you roster 15 players, you can use a 3rd 2-way contract. So it’s very likely that one or both 33 & 34 will be 2-way contracts.
JP said last night they have the roster space to make both picks and keep them. We’ll see what happens. I would like to see them make both. There’s some good value still available. Let’s improve the overall talent level of the roster.
wonder if we could move miles & green for Ayton. would fill the hole created last night - and give us a nice expiring. id even consider the least of the future firsts to put in.
grab Reynaud & Broome w/ 33/34. Broome seems like he could slide right into this team. just thinking - but still feel like we are in need of one more big picture move.
Deandre DominAyton. Ah, a Nurkic/Ayton rotation. What a beautiful, and hilariously disgusting full circle moment that would be.
I have no delusions of being a great team this season. But I don’t know if I could handle taking on DominAyton, unless the hornets were royally rewarded for hosting him for one season. Which I don’t think will happen.
But the east next season won’t be very good. Who knows
