Sidney Moncrief was my off-speed 80s fave. There was something about him in college that kinda captured my interest as a kid and i always kept a loose track in the NBA. I think I always had an outsized like for the blue collar guys in the NBA.
I watched Rod Strickland up close and personal for years in DC and the guy was a joke. What basketball player eats a bunch of hot dogs right before each game? Each off season he promised to be more of a professional and he never lived up to his promises.
Yeah he was good but he had potential that was never realized.
Well, that’s later stage Rod in his 30s. He did rack up about 8k assists and had a sick handle. But yeah, as good as he was, he could have been even better.
I mean, look at Gilbert arenas. I wonder what he could’ve achieved.
All-time leading scorer from the '80s if I’m not mistaken. Had that high release shot. I actually have an English jersey in that cool 1980s rainbow skyline style.
Bobby Jones. Dr J was my guy, but I don’t know if the 6ers win the title in 83 without Jones. He did all the dirty work. Defense, rebounding, and could fill a lane on the break. Type of player you need to win a championship.
Lakers and Celtics were just too good, I guess. But when they got Moses that first year('82-83) it was lightning in a bottle. Moses and Doc just got a little past their prime after that and Barkley was young/figuring it out?
