I understand where you’re coming from with this line of thinking. I agree that taking a flyer on young-ish players like Wiseman or Bagley could make sense under the right circumstances. You’re right that it likely wouldn’t take much to pry them away in a trade, however given their salaries, we’d have to send back around 12 mil to match salary so that would be the challenge. Assuming Wiseman becomes an UFA this summer though, signing him to a minimum deal just to see if there’s anything there could make sense. He did put up decent numbers for Det last year.
We’re as set at C as we’ve been in a long time with Mark and Nick, but to your point, I think there have been opportunities in past years when we desperately needed depth in the post and there were available players who could’ve helped us in some area. Drummond (rebounding), Whiteside (rebounding, rim protection) Wood (scoring, floor spacing) are a few examples of bigs who would’ve addressed an area of need that could’ve been had on minimum or near minimum deals. They all have their shortcomings as players, but I think front offices and fanbases alike can sometimes fixate on what guys don’t do well and ignore the things they do at a high level. As that relates to guys like Bagley and Wiseman, I think your point is well taken.
