Yea this is where I am. The timing was not there for us to wait one more year before using FA to bring in veteran leadership. We overpaid for fit because of who we are and when our cap sheet would allow it. All that said if it works out it’ll pay serious dividends
Judging by reports, Vernon Carey could be our stretch 5 of the future. And he definitely looks healthy for sure.

Gordo is one of my favorite players on the league… if he is healthy, he is an All Star who is sneaky athletic and a good defender.
Add to that, he is a solid vet leader and a sniper who is the last player to average more than 17 pts per night while shooting over 50%. Last person to do that was KG…

Hayward injury was spectacular but it was just bones.
On paper, the healing process is long but chances to reinjured are close to none. Knees injuries are a lot more worrisome.
Last year were productive for him while their offense was clerly centered on guys like Brown, Tatum and Kemba
It’s a gamble, any big contract is a gamble, but it’s a good gamble IMO, a wing with size, shooting and that can create offense. We’ve been lacking this kind of player for decades

The team saw a chance to bring in one of the best all around wings in the league that is still only 30 years old. No reason to think he won’t be playing at a high level at 34. Players like Hayward do not grow on trees, and it’s extremely rare for teams like us to be able to add a player like this via free agency. You really can’t blame them for taking this gamble.

I’ll hope for the best; but man this Front Office…Last year it was Terry for Kemba, and it’s been working out. This is so much more risk though.

Any player in the world can get seriously injured with one bad break. It’s the harsh reality of the game. Hayward’s injury was bone, not knee/ligament stuff. I’m the furthest thing in the world from a medical professional, but my understanding is that bone injuries take a bit longer to heal but the risk of a similar injury happening again isn’t near as high. Again - Hayward scored 17.5 PPG shooting 50% last year. That’s really really good!

It’s going to be OK brother. We are going all in on it and tbh, we’ve played everything pretty well if we think about it even if the moves have seemed odd in real time. They might have a grander plan and perhaps getting Ball was enough to set it in motion.

To me, that’s not the play and they wouldn’t really get value from that anyway. For us, we’d want to shed salary that isn’t expiring (Terry). But if they have no need or want, there’s no there there.
