Am I the only one (including ESPN) focusing on what was said. It says the warriors made it clear it’s in his best interest. I don’t read this as money but as taking over the head job. Maybe not this year but definitely in the near future
I don’t think this is as much a Charlotte thing as a Steve Kerr/warrior thing
This is terrible look for Atkinson and the Hornets. Any team would be hesitant to offer him anything after this debacle, and Hornets lost the chance with MDA (and other interviewees). I think the way out is Snyder now.
Snyder is not an option unless we buy out his remaining contract year. And he’s coming off of surgery and reportedly has no interest in coaching this year. If we made him our HC, it would be the Timofey Mosgov’s of bad deals I’d think. And we have no track record of paying over the top for coaching historically. Note, were still going to be paying 4.6m to JB for his early termination.
He deserves a good laugh at our expense over this. There’s some real reputational harm with how this shakes out. I have to imagine the nature of JBs tenure and shortening of it plays some role here.
I’ll say this, Atkinson had better be on a promise of taking over the top job at GS because every other franchise will be wary of hiring him. And if/when he does get the top job there, I’d assume the stars will be right at the end of their careers.
It makes us look bad, from a franchise attractiveness/allure point of view, but it really does call Atkinson’s credibility and professionalism into question.
For his own good Atkinson owes Charlotte a heart-felt public apology for how he handled this. He allowed it to become an embarrassing Woj tweet before informing anyone. Without it, he’ll be a pariah with many and folks will continue to laugh at the Hornets franchise.
Woj should be held accountable as well. It’s very bad form to broadcast about injured parties before they’re informed.
You’d think someone might be out to embarrass MJ - go figure - without consideration for all his teams fans. Bad.
