Hornets Head Coaching search (2022)

Our savior has returned

But where are these rumors?

Just people that have been ā€œin the knowā€ in the past talking online. Not necessarily 100% reputable but the guy seems to have some decent connections.

TBH, now that I think about it, we’re probably making a bigger deal out this than it really is. It only feels like a huge deal because we’re the Hornets and MJ has always had the reputation of being a terrible owner. But really, no one will really care about this once the season starts. I’m actually starting to get over it now.

Forget what other people think about this… who cares

I care what Melo and Miles, etc think about this.

With that being said, Getting the right coach will save all

Y’all know who my pick was

LOL actually I don’t (must have missed it). Is it MDA? If so, I think he’d be great in a lot of ways but I do worry about player development taking a back seat. Perhaps he could hire assistants for that?

I am of the opinion, right or wrong, that we should conduct a brief internal investigation to make sure we aren’t the source of his change of mind. It might not yield squat but if we’re sending a worrisome message, between ownership, management, or existing carry over coaching staff, we should know. We won’t get a third swing at this.

Melo, Miles or anybody - I don’t think that any of the players (or staff, management or owners) will truly respect the new coach. This team will be psychological damaged until the NEXT coach after this one comes in.

So far it’s been a TERRIBLE summer! We had a guy arrested too!!

Internal investigation?!?!? An outside auditor - maybe - but asking the front office to police it’s self is not going to happen. Looks like option number three (Kenny saw the inter workings and decided to pass) is definitely on the table.

It would be pretty funny of the other candidates we previously interviewed said no now that Atkinson is out lol. Wow that would be a mess.

Feels pretty gross

what a fucking dick. What an immature, dick head move to accept the job if he had those doubts. Those doubts don’t just suddenly pop up. I’m extremely disappointed with how Atkinson handled this situation.

Here’s a different perspective. Atkinson changing his mind may have been a blessing. I don’t want him as our coach if this is how he’s going to conduct himself professionally. That’s shitty communication on his end, and probably shitty communication between he and his family too. If there were these reservations within his family, Kenny should have never let things get this far. I don’t want a coach who has that poor of judgment, tact, and communication skills.

The last few seconds of the Kerr interview are the ā€œleadā€ in the story. Stinks of Warriors greatly stepped up their offer and commitment to Atkinson after he committed and then they won finals. By that point he could basically share the damn contract with them for them to draw a new one from it.

Really, really bad business IMO IF this happened

Mike D’Antoni is 71 years old and a final candidate.

I saw we go ahead and bring back the greatest coach in Hornets history, Allan Bristow. He’s a young 70 and well rested. I know Founding Hornet is with me! @FoundingHornet

Most former hornets coaches disappeared after their stint with us. We’re like the Bermuda Triangle of franchises. From Dick Harter, Gene Littles, Bristow, Cowens, Silas, Bernie, Ham Biscuit, Larry, Dunlap… have any even been hired as head coach of another NBA team other than Clifford after their stint with us? (Don’t think Silas filling in for an emergency for us for the 2nd time counts as a true head coach ā€œhiringā€ by a new team)

Speaking of Cowens, I think the argument is there as the greatest coach in Hornets history

Long live the Fine Ham Biscuit.

Is Dunlap coaching a middle school or high school basketball team now?

Let’s see what Larry Brown is doing

I’m calling BS on that. All those reasons were there, before he interviewed 3 times. Once with MJ in Boston during the finals.

Dave Cowens left because we traded Glen Rice and he couldn’t adjust, but that ended up being the right decision because Glen got ridden with injuries right after that trade.

Paul Silas to save the franchise again? He’s only 78, why the hell not?

It just struck me, is there value in fielding a team for summer league in 17 days if there isn’t a coach and staff in place by then? I realize we could have a bench together by then but too, draft will likely take precedent over all else between now and Thursday. And then we would only have 6 days before free agency where I assume that too will take precedence.

Just feels highly concerning as of today, June 20th at 11pm.

Yes the organization is in MASSIVE disarray in all aspects. Word coming out about doubts to play Miles just adds to the uncertainty and makes us an even less attractive free agent destination. Two weeks ago I figured that we were pass due for something good happening. Now I am just hoping that we don’t do something irrational or desperate.

Low expectations. If we can just be normal (draft a couple safe picks, hire a coach, not f-up free agency) then we would be successful in getting the car out of the ditch. The players have to be dismayed at the chaos. Thank goodness that they are keeping their conversations close to vest.

We look like a circus.

The only words coming out about that are clearly from Miles’ agents. Agents pay good money for, essentially, promotional tweets like that. He isn’t a max player, just like he isn’t a two way player in the mould of the other players listed in that sponsored tweet.
