Oh wow, a Hornets player with a ankle injury. That’s surprising. Hopefully, Gueye is ok. Walked off.
Was hoping to see NSJ coming out hot to start summer league 2024. Not a great start.
Lol gotta love summer league. Team China absolutely crushing us since the 2nd quarter. Prior to that last second layup to end the half, I don’t we we scored since about 6:00 in the 2nd. And outside of two free throws I don’t think we’ve scored in the 2nd half. And that’s with 7:00 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Edit: why the fuck is McGowens playing so much. Do. Not. Care.
I wonder what Mouhamadou Gueye’s measurables are. There might be some confusion out there because because a MOUHAMED Gueye from Washington State did get measured at an NBA combine.
OUR Gueye averaged 5.4 blocks per 36 minutes in his 120 rookie minutes with the Raptors last year. And he’s showing stretch 4 potential? Interesting.
NSJ can’t hit a thing right now. Wide open stuff too.
Such a different Bryce tonight. Good for him that he shook that crap from yesterday. Not feeling great about Nick’s game tonight, feel like they swapped places.
Slater with the “Bless His Heart” shooting two nights in a row. Good effort guy but damn I hopehe doesn’t normally shoot this painfully off normally.
The exit of Gueye has allowed the Stephens kid to play some more. He’s got a three point stroke.
Pember on the floor!
He was stroking it last night too. He’d be a great guy to keep on the Swarm in a warm backup role
I’d say drew pember is a more offensively talented Brady manek.
Wow what a follow off the miss by pember at the end.
It would definitely feel better to see NSJ look sharper, but I’m not as worried about it since we’ve seen him make shots in games that count.
Was Brady Manek any good? I only remember the name but the player didn’t leave an impression on me
So maybe can someone can explain this to me. Bryce gets waived but plays and gets the lions share of the minutes? If he’s not on a contract how can we play him?
Or is this just a kind nod to Bryce to help him get minutes that would help him get another contract offer elsewhere? M That’s nice and all, but I want to see guys on our team (or have the potential to be on our team) get minutes.
We’ve seen a couple years of Bryce. And the league has a couple years of Bryce highlights they can watch.
Manek was probably the low key player of the tournament for UNC during their run. 40% three point shooter, stretch 4. Pember is a more well rounded offensive player, and not just an outside shooter. Better passer, rebounder, etc. 6’11 and put up crazy numbers.
My guess is that no wing on this SL team in Sacramento is getting in front of Bryce for either a spot on the Swarm or a deep reserve seat for the Hornets. The bigs are the only guys that we’re likely taking a bit of a real look at as new guys in the pipeline.
As far as bodies, I think Stephens is more compelling between the two. Pember is going to really need to bulk up to be able to get minutes. Not that I think Stephens is an NBA hooper either.
I’d agree with that. For some reason, I can foresee Pember finding a role and hopping around the league. In a Bertans role or a Matt Bonner type.
Yeah actually, Matt Bonner is the player comp, but pember is has a more complete offensive game and is a good passer. I didn’t think I’d make a Matt Bonner comp today lol. It was a deep dig for that one.
That was my thought - two days ago. I did get a chance to see his highlights! Looked up his numbers and it’s pretty clear he won’t make it. His numbers go up playing center but he’s undersized for that role in the league. Play him at the PF and his shooting percentage goes from bad to horrendous. I just don’t think that he is talented enough or big enough to even make it as tweeter.
F Bryce. Showing up and putting in the effort AFTER getting fired? Ridiculous. This is the first questionable decision of the coaching staff. Those minutes show go to someone else.
Hilarious. I love the thought of this kid too. Maybe he can make a living getting 10 day contracts a couple of times a season. I want to see him on a roster every summer! I think that I am going to switch my intrigue from Pember to Jake Stephens.
I don’t think that Nick is going anywhere but he has to show the new coaches why he was drafted in the 1st round. The team needs shooting so there is a very clear role for him. His efficiency numbers were bad - again.
If Jake Stephens could get another steal, d rebound and another block per game, he would be in contention for a two way. Bryce could be overshadowing ReaQuan Battle - double f Bryce. Not sure what happened w Caleb McConnell.
Triple F Bryce:
2024 California Classic Summer League: McGowens lifts Hornets past China.
I watched a little bit of the first summer game and most of the second one. Not a lot of thoughts so far other than it’s weird seeing the hornets play well in summer league.
But mostly there’s a level of organization and competence that is apparent now when compared to other summer league iterations. Could be having a competent PG, coach Lee’s tutelage, or playing against bad teams. Don’t know yet.
I could be victim of seeing what I want to believe in that coach Lee is the x factor, but it’s early. Still a lot of games to play. And we need to see Salaun. More to come. Next game Tuesday.
