Moderators do you mind consolidating under this thread? This is horrible news but it needs its own thread.
Yeah of course, I want all the information as we can get before I write off miles and give a final judgement. But damn. I can’t imagine what info is going to come out to change my perception on this. It’s a felony charge with 130k bail set.
What’s he going to do? Release some shitty mix tape about it? Maybe he can quit basketball to team up with another shitty rapper, Antonio brown
Don’t get me started on the rap, the bloke who refers to women as ‘b!tch35’ 50 times per track - the signs were there.
The first lesson for this lot out of college should be delete your social media, keep your mouth shut, keep your hands down and play basketball, it ain’t that hard - idiots.
Most importantly, Hopefully the girl’s alright.
Consolidated Looks like we did quite the number on ourselves with Miles and the Pistons and Miles bridges felony DV threads
Guys its bad. Really bad. The cops decided to charge him w a felony NOT a misdemeanor. Is there really a “his of the story” when it comes to putting your hands on a woman? To save someone’s life yeah but that is a really hard sell (to a jury and the general public) when you are a rich, famous, strong GIANT who’s alone w a petite woman:
Yeah that b!tches rap is exactly what the prosecution needs to help get a conviction. I can see it now to the non basketball fan jury: “Miles hates and devalues women - just watch ANY of his videos. Your wife, mother and daughters are all b!tches to this 6-7 Hercules.”
Embracing “hip hop culture” will be his downfall in court. He needs to plead and settle as quietly as possible.
I’ve always thought his rap lyrics were so cringe, and were of poor taste. But I never really thought that’s how he was. Seems like I was wrong.
I feel like like this screws us in so many ways. We’ve got to wait out free agency, waiting to get the full story on Miles, so we even know what to do. Could not have gone shittier for us.
Please don’t challenge fate so recklessly.
The forever answer to the existential hornet’s question of “can things get shittier” is always, without question, a resounding yes.
Don’t really agree there. They could have salary-dumped Hayward and Rozier for Westbrook on draft night only to have this come out now. With Hayward and PJ still in-house they’re set up okay to weather moving on from Miles if that’s the path they choose to go.
My guess is they make him a RFA but just sit on the situation while they get more facts. I don’t think he’s getting a significant offer sheet from anyone now.
I am ok with not signing Miles, but I like good deals in life. So if we can have miles for 4/50 or 4/60, why not. I think Lakers MLE is $10M, so we can just sign if for a little more.
I would turn around and offer him 4/60 today and say “this is the best deal you are going to get right now”.
Also, I’m not so sure that we won’t just wait it out until the court date, but that would depend on someone else presenting him with an offer.
What we CAN’T let happen is that Miles signs the QO and is unrestricted next year
Guys. It’s over.
We’re not signing Miles. He’s played his last game as a hornet.
Felony DV charge.
What’s even worse? Knowing the way he ended his hornets career: getting blown out in a play in game, that he was ejected from. And hit a little girl with his mouth guard that he tossed into the crowd. And now he’s facing felony DV charges one day before the biggest day in his life. What a way to end your time with a franchise
Rich Paul is kicking rocks rn for not picking up 4/60
terrible crime, Hope victim get well…
if team wash’s hands I’m not losing sleep over dirtbag.
Not surprised we take away QO 16 million b4 Miles sign, suspended how many games?
Expect We make a very team friendly deal before pulling.
And Expect Klutch refuse and Metta World to play with Lebron and Monk. Know Hard see Back In LA. But be NBA poster boy on DV…punishment & abuser reform.
I’m not even going to talk about contracts for miles at this point. I can’t think about saving money at the expense of the woman he beat up
Coach does have a very good point. As a general exercise, miles should be afforded innocent until proven guilty.
However, as I said earlier, you can do that but also say, I am not going to extend you a guaranteed contract in lieu of obvious maturity and ethical concerns. Which is completely fair.
That is true, but just look at Trevor Bauer. He has been suspended for two years (I know offenses are much worse), and even though Prosecutor declined to press charges, he is still suspended. Who knows what penalty NBA would give even under just “allegations” that are followed by a felony DV charge with hospital records.
I don’t think NBA cares about the legal outcome, and can easily suspend him for more than 1/2 season.
I’m reserving judgement until I know the facts. I’m not defending him whatsoever but it’s not inconceivable that someone knowing about his situation and the money he was about to come into could attempt to set him up for a quick payday or potentially ruin him. We don’t know who the woman was in relation to him. He wasn’t at the scene and we don’t know if he indeed inflicted the wombs that had to be treated. We saw how it played out with Richard Holmes who was exonerated. Right now we just don’t know the facts.
But what i do know is that it was incredibly poor judgement and immaturity to be in a position anywhere close to something like this happening. 2 days away from a $150M payday I’d be locked in my mansion in NC, with my kids, nowhere near LA, nowhere near anyone or anything that could upset me or cause me to be perceived as anything other than a loving father.
I also know that having to wait for this to develop and the facts to come out screws us. If he plays on the QO and becomes unrestricted next year it screws us. Having to decide what to do with him just screws us.
