For context. Strange there was no mention of the ownership stake including HornetsPlanet. Maybe that’s pending NBA approval as being included in the deal.
That would be MJs luck. If they do win, he should get credit for it, but they’ll say this proves he was to blame all along.
Glad he’s still going to be with the team though.
I’m with you 100% on this!
I’m more bummed that it never seemed to work well with him at the controls. I so wanted him to succeed, more than succed. It just seemed to dog him and every time the org pressed, it resulted in setbacks.
Do you think this changes things in the draft. Does it increase our changes at a trade or just making the selection at 2?
Working on an article, what are the worst Michael Jordan owner moves/decisions of his tenure as owner? Im sure this forum can think of some deep, under the radar stories from Hornets history.
I honestly have to put trading last years 13th pick for a late first round pick. That’s still such a dumb move to me and doesn’t even seem like a real thing.
A lot of the picks, you could say was right move at the time… even MKG… I think almost anyone would have selected him 2nd. I feel a lot of players he selected, weren’t thought of as the wrong choice when they were drafted.
Even paying Batum… at the time, it seemed like the right move to make. Things just have not worked out but I think the 4-5 drafts having been too bad, minus the stupid trade last year.

Taking Monk ahead of Donovan Mitchell. I believe it has been said that SC wanted DM but Jordan wanted Monk. IDK, maybe it was Cho’s decision.
Selling 2nd Round draft picks like chattel. At least until Mitch came along and showed him you could trade 1st Rounders for them and save real money.
Hiring Sam Vincent. Hiring Mike Dunlap. And I know Larry Brown was seen as a serious basketball move to get a HOF coach. But he also gave LB a ton of input with personnel moves, only for LB to quickly change his mind on a player out of some perceived sense of his own version of basketball purity on that particular day of the week, during a particular phase of the moon.
I think you’re probably right about this, but I still have no idea why so many people were so high on him.
But that aside and more to the general question, is it really fair to lay all these draft decisions at Jordan’s feet? I know there are all these rumors about someone’s cousin who knows someone in the organization who said they heard we were taking this guy but 45 seconds before the pick was announced MJ stormed in and insisted we take draft someone else, but to what degree do we truly know he was mandating any of these picks? If he was than that’s fair, but I doubt most of what is said about him in this regard is based on first hand knowledge or is completely in line with the actual version of events.
Certainly not giving him a free pass because he’s responsible for hiring the people who make those decisions even if he didn’t, but I think because he’s Michael Jordan, he’s probably been scrutinized more than any other owner in the history of professional sports, and definitely held to a higher standard than most are.
That’s what I’ve been saying for years. Since the sell from Bob Johnson, he’s been the owner. Not the GM. No other owner gets criticized for their teams picks the way MJ did.
My thoughts too. I think it firmly moves the needle one way or the other … I just have no idea which way. New ownership will either want a ‘we’re here!’ trade (thinking Zion) or be firmly build for the future and pick at #2 and invest in coaching and infrastructure.
Interesting, nerve wracking times!
WHERE HAVE ALL MY MEMBERSHIP DUES BEEN GOING. I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE DEAL.
Are there any other dedicated Hornets boards out there, minus Reddit?
The team has to check on us here right, so they know what they should be doing?
At the Hive
The board on RealGM is very active. It’s funny to follow that one and then come here. They’re very pro-Miller.
RealGM guys are the antithesis of this place. A couple of them used to be here back in the day, but they’re an interesting group. Lol
