"Neva' Lost" LaMelo Ball Thread

In the words of Borat… WaWaWooWee. I like.

If these are the real measurements, he is 6’10" in shoes.

So that’s the same height as Biz, an inch taller than PJ and two inches taller than Miles.

No wander we keep hearing comments than Ball’s taller than other players had expected.

Would love to see Ball’s length measurements. Doesn’t LOOK long, but certainly has good length for a “Point Guard”.

A guy in the FO referred to Melo as a 2020 version of Magic…

Wow

Going to find out in a few years on that one but I do believe he is going to be a beast

Idk about all that but I definitely think he has potential to be a top 30 player if all the cards fall right

He’s probably already one of the best passers in the league and he hasn’t even played a game

The ceiling is so very, very high for him. If he has the want to defend and improves his shooting … then he can become an all star. There’s plenty of road between where he is now and that level, but to have someone on our roster who has that potential is something I’m so very glad for.

It’s for that very reason I’m so very glad the front office has bigger balls than me, as I’d have gone for Okongwu.

Im less bullish on Ball if his three point shooting does not improve. Any player in this league, point guards more so than any other position, is severely limited by not being able to shoot reliably from outside. In fact, I want nothing to do with a point guard who can’t shoot from outside well because this destroys floor spacing.

The nba will be dominated moving forward by teams who have all 5 players capable outside shooters. I’m not trying to be a buzzkill, but I’m just not bullish on a point guard who can be comfortably defended with a 5 foot cushion because their shoot isn’t respected.

I agree with you but there’s no earthly reason why he won’t develop that. No guarantee either, but it’s about having a player with such a high ceiling.

He’s shown he can hit from deep, and it’s doubtful any stage will be too big for him. it’s now about working on refining technique and his shot selection.

I agree with that, and I’m hopeful that he can develop a better outside shot. His forms looks more workable than lonzo. In short, I’m hopeful but with reservations

He doesn’t need a 3 ball to be good or even all star level, but he will absolutely need a mid range game. You have to be a “need to guard” guy from 18ft in.

In fairness, his floater game is so good that it rivals most midrange games haha.

I’ll mostly agree with you, but I think to be a perineal all star or at least consistently near all star level you have to be able to shoot from 3 at a reasonable clip.

Name other PG/SGs you’d really want on your team who generally shoot below 35% from three.

Russell Westbrook fits right into this niche and damn I don’t want him on my team. Derozan? Ben Simmons?

Hard pass.

Ben simmons all day.

Westbrook yes but I am a glutton for punishment.

The difference between Westbrook and derozan and ball, is ball is a passer and table setter. The other two are not. I imagine ball’s floor is Ricky rubio + 5"

I’m with that. Well, I’ll stick with the “under” on Ball lol, and say Ricky Rubio +2 instead of Rubio+5 haha.

Guys, I have been trying my best to bottom out my expectations for Lamelo, so I have an announcement to make.

I expect Lamelo Ball to only be the second best player in the NBA in 5 years.

There, expectations lowered. Lol

Whoa. I don’t know about that. Maybe a perennial all star. But to accuse the young man of being that good at the taint is outside the scope of my fandom.
