Seems to have some ability to transfer the ball from his hands to others with accuracy.
Preseason over is the young man a starter now,.later this this season, or should he prove his value be for he moves into a starting position⦠Your thoughts
I think the preseason showed that Terry and Devonte should be the starters. Lamelo seems to connect well with Miles and Biz so it might be beneficial for him to keep playing with them. It will take some of the pressure off him too
Agree Buzz
He can run the backups and we will be dangerous once he starts maturing
Heās no where near ready to start, and that is the best thing for him. He has a fantastic foundation but needs a ton of work
LaMelo will definitely be starting next year. IDK about this year. Maybe after the trade deadline, if Terry or Devonteā get moved.
Starting is overrated. Weāll see how JB handles the rotations as Hayward starts to blend in more.
Absolutely. Ball, Miles & McDaniels (with the likes of Cody Martin & Biz filling out the second unit) is really intriguing. Thereās even less of a stigma attached to coming off the bench when the unit youāre on is full of potential.
Eager to see Vernon develop and earn his way into the rotation. I have entirely unrealistically high hopes for him!
ESPN is having an absolute field day with young LaMelo
I know it wasnāt a great night but I think it will only serve him well to go to school on. I think the kid has a ton of upside.
ESPN was calling him magic johnson 2.0 last week
Heās going to have some bad games this year but itās going to be well worth it in my opinion
Weird thing I find about the NBA is how rookies are expected to perform well from the start especially for the top picks.
In the other sports I follow thereās not that pressure to perform straight away.
Well this is not a good start against not a good Cleveland team.
Boyās got a long way to go, he will fix some stuffs quickly but heās going to struggle to score in this league.
Definitively not ready to start
The world loves to build you up way past where your foundation can support the structure only to help push you over when you start to buckle.
Primo reason I am trying really hard to divorce myself from these outlets.
Not sure if this will prove to be Ball specific or nba in general. Heard mention of it from Bonnell but no details.
No point getting worked up over his first game, but just the way we were playing last night was an awful fit for his game. It turned into a lot of Hayward/Terry iso ball, which made sense because no one else could score. But it was of course going to be difficult for LaMelo to acclimate himself in a game like that. And one of his threes was halfway down
It reminded me of the times I got really frustrated with Borrego previously. The rotations seem really clueless at times, it seems we freelance way too often for a team that ends up playing a lot more in the halfcourt than we do running, and just no feel for when we need to regroup. I honestly thought we were a possible top 5 team this year after the preseason, and we still might be, but Borrego needs to get it together⦠no way we shouldāve lost to Cleveland, and absolutely insane that a but like Garland went off like he did on us.
In regards to the topic at hand, Ball looked bad, but weāve seen enough flashes in preseason to know there is something special there⦠hard to show it when you play 16 minutes and your coach has no structure in place then pulls you out immediately after mistakes. How he was used reminds me of a team with 2 QBs. When you have 2, neither get in a rhythm or comfortable, so you end up having none. Proud of Terry and Gordon though, but man, that was unnecessarily rough to watch.
SN: Find a trade for Myles Turner. Thanks.
PDiddy, I love your passion man, but
As Hornet fans, our bar of expectations arenāt allowed to be set that high. Itās in one of those rulebooks. This will contribute too much strain on you if youāre hoping for that this year. If you say playoff/playin contender, then watching the team will be much more enjoyable.
As to the rotations, we have so many young/new guys, that the coach has to see how certain playing groups play together, even through the mistakes, to see what works what doesnāt. Iām sure theyāre collecting the data and will tighten the rotations as needed. Plus getting into a rhythm with so many new/young parts will take much longer than veteran laden teams, so I expect some good games mixed with looking terrible. (If it looks like this late in the year, Iāll hop on board with you)
I have confidence in Ball, he has all the hallmarks of having elite basketball instincts/passing. But he is way too weak right now to be reach his potential. He needs at least 2 years of strength training to reach enough grown man strength to be able to drive and finish better, which will open up his shooting and passing lanes much more.
