And sorry, Ziggy, maybe this should be addressed in the Hornets History thread at this point. Thanks guys.
Gill was an average player who never did anything significant in or for the City of Charlotte
Period!
Ask 10 under 25 NBA fans (in Charlotte) if theyāve ever heard of Kendall Gillā¦then ask them about Rex Chapman, which one do you think has left his fingerprint on the NBA and Charlotte?
Case closed
Iāve heard much more about Kendall Gill than Rex, Iām 21 and live in Charlotte so I fit the criteria.
Thatās great Gerald, demographics, and other factors would most likely go into that as well.
I should most likely change the parameters of the sample as I would not expect a 21 year old to fully understand Hornets Lore and City impact.
But yes, you are an under 25 NBA fan in Charlotte. Thanks for the contribution and encouraging Picksetter⦠haha
Your opinions are always appreciated young mane. I would also say, you are not an average fan. Your way above that bro.
Just to chime in on Rex Chapman - you think those issues he had a few years ago affected their decision?
100% man, and also, Mike does not like him, haha.
100% though on the snub having to do with the pillz⦠oh and the fact he stole software from an Apple store.
He got his life together and is now doing fantastic.
I think Kendall works at a Fuddruckers somewhere
Gill was the first Hornet draft pick to average 20 points per game. Then in his third year he was a huge part of the first playoff run. If Gill was an average player then Rex was below average. Just look at their stats in terms of points per shot attempt and steals per game while they were here. Rex was a disappointment because of terrible shot selection, and outside of leaping ability he had zero physical presence. Like I say, I think he got it together a little in Washington.
Itās entirely possible more people have heard of Rex, because he WAS the first ever pick.
But we traded Rex away for Tom FREAKINā Hammonds because Kendall was a better 2-guard anyway. I mean, we got rid of the guy so Gill could play his natural position. That says it all.
For what itās worth Gill did some boxing and TV commentary but even if heās in a ditch somewhere now he was a better Hornet when he played.
Edit: Rex had a cooler name and you never forget your āfirstā(draft pick in this case), but my argument is about on court production for the Hornets. Gill was packaged for Hersey Hawkins while Rex got us the aforementioned Tom Hammonds. I think that says a lot about their value at the time. Thank you for reading.
This is basically how I remember it.
Stats also heavily support Gill as the better player.
Chuck D appears to agree with us too:
LOL I saw Public Enemy at the Cats Cradle in Chapel Hill in 1992. Man, such a great time for hip hop and the NBA.
And, yeah, the style of ball with that one Gill LJ Zo team was loads of fun.
I also need to mention how much fun it is to watch LaMelo, since this IS a thread about him, ha ha. Ball, Hayward, and Bridges make me feel like a young Hornet fan again.
This old head isnāt really into paying money to see 70 combined 3 point attempts and a low rate of contested rebounds(or shots for that matter) in a modern NBA game, but LaMelo Ballās ball handling/passing and early excellence kind of make up for it. Truly unique and catching the eye of the league. This is the rookie I needed.
Preach
Curse this 20 character setting!
Yawn
LJ ran KG out of town because he simply didnāt belong. Would not take a big shot⦠LJ could not stand his ass at the end. This thread is tired and Kendall Gill is just a non event for Charlotteā¦
As the Hard Rhymer would say, āGo get a late pass!ā
Haha
Uh ⦠what?
Great post,
I thought youād like Twitter.
Thatās where Rex Chapman seems to have a good career.
How many followers does KG have? Oh wait, you have to be known to have followers
Keep at it superstar!
Yes, and Rex is known for terrific tweets and dank memes.
Not so sure any of his followers could describe a play they saw him make.
I like how we have a game going on but this Kendall Gill debate has captivated the forum
Iām enjoying the saltiness of this thread far exceeding what the subject justifies.
Rex averaged 19 in best season amd KG 20⦠Rex averaged 14 per game over career, Kendall 13.
Kendall used to wear red suits to Plum Crazy like a bitch.
Rex used to bang KGās girl
Both true stories
FH drops Mic and leaves thread
