Yeah, I question your listening skills.
That is indeed the podcast I assumed you had listened to. At no point does it quote Scoot as having said he doesnât want to play for current ownership.
Firstly, itâs a Givony article, secondly that podcast has sadly gone down the unhinged speculation route a few times too many of late. Doug in particular has lost the plot to the point he was speaking positively about trading #2 with the Bulls for DeRozan & LaVine. Shame as itâs a very well produced podcast that keeps on top of all things Hornets. Iâm hoping they right the ship.
Direct quotes?!?! That is a pretty high standard particularly for the wild @ss âtrade Melo speculationâ standards/nature of this board.
What is even more disturbing is the attack on an alternative opinion that is also prevalent. (Anybody see founding hornet body slam me for saying I like Miller? WTF!) These podcasters work their tails off and sometimes you might disagree but there is no need to bulldog them. Cut them some slack.
Bill Simmons suggests that Melo is not happy in Charlotte and instead of considering the possibility that we need to get our collective @ss in gear to keep Melo, board group think attacks the reporter. 10 months later Clifford himself says that we need to do more to keep Melo in direct contradiction to those who gave an emotional response to the Simmons article.
Dismiss these guys out of hand if it makes you feel better about the organization but your dismissal may be about of alignment w the reality of the situation.
It is possible that this report is an outright lie but is just as possible that Scoot may not want to play for the ownership that is criticized DAILY on this very board. What really matters is what Scoot says about this in his interview. Consider the possibility that he might blow sh!t up and we got a heads up. The report is valid to consider during this whole process.
Went to nba.comâs Blazers page and pulled up their video and photos of Scoots workout there yesterday. Highly recommend. Guy is a joy.
End of the day, you have to take who you think the best prospect is in the top 5âŚ.regardless of position. If the Hornets think itâs Scoot, take Scoot. If the Hornets think is Miller, take Miller. Drafting this high in the draft for fit doesnât make a ton of sense. Itâs not like weâre one piece away from the Conference Finals. Even still, ask the Trailblazers and Warriors how it worked out for drafting fit at 2. When youâre in a position to draft 2nd it means youâre bad, so take the player that is the best prospect and you worry about the rest later (Scoot/Lameloâs fit, LaMelo possibly leaving, etc)
RE: blogs and podcasts, with respect to @Plowright, at the end of the day, itâs all about generating content, and right now, everybody wants to know who the pick is with very little information to know for sure. So, every little utterance or photo has to be magnified thousands of times to get a point of interest. (And to be fair to Plowright, heâs doing things like the impressive work of tracking every catch and shoot by Scoot to get a better idea of who he is as a player.)
Uninformed guesses I have:
- Both players would love to be the second pick, regardless of who the team is.
- While we had a terrible record, we clearly have the ability to be very competitive next season. That has to be attractive to a young rookie coming in, knowing they can be a difference maker without having to carry the weight of the franchise out of the gate.
Either way, Iâm not worried about a guy wanting to be here. Iâm more worried about which guy gives us the best chance to take the next step for us, and I honestly have no idea. Iâd be happy with either.
Welcome to HP. Even though they play the same position, LaMelo and Scootâs skill set seem to compliment each other very well and I think they can coexist.
Walker and Doug are great, Hornets fans are lucky to have them both and that comes from someone with a Hornets podcast who is in competition with them.
Itâs a challenge to walk the line times of quality content vs clicks.
Example A: I wrote an 900 word article breaking down Ben Sheppard, it took me 3 hours to research, write, edit etc. That article has 495 views. Yesterday, I wrote a 200 word news story yesterday about Borrego being hired where all I did was pretty much copy Wojâs tweet and add in some filler, that has 4,968 views.
Example B: the All Hornets podcast that did the Rockets-Hornets trade negotiations about the 4th pick has over 1,100 listens. I thought it was a pretty vanilla episode if Iâm honest. Some of our best podcasts havenât hit over 200 listens but because itâs not âTRADE TALKSâ people donât engage,
So if youâre trying to get clicks and engagement to grow your brand or earn $, it doesnât pay to do good quality, in depth content. Youâre better off doing the speculative shallow stuff. Luckily for me, I donât rely on clicks for my income or living and have free license from the site publishing manager, so Iâm able to do the content I am proud of for the majority of the time
Yeah, I get it for sure. Iâm not so much judging the content creators as setting our expectations as viewers. Going to be a lot of hyped up thoughts from here until draft time.
To be fair to the FO, they should be doing exactly what they are doing. The best play is to not let on to who you are liking more. In this case, they need to talk up miller as scoot is seen as the clear #2.
You want to invite as many calls as possible
Givony from ESPN is really trying to push Brandon Miller being consensus #2. He has a motive, Disney pays him.
Also got the entire top 3 wrong last year, so I wouldnât put much into his propoganda style of reporting currently, as with the way he spun the Scoot answer to potential new ownership.
By the way, and I know I have said this a lot, but MJ would still have tremendous power within the organization whether he sells of majority share or not, sounds like it wouldnât be total regime change.
This is what ive been saying. The draft starts with us. Whoever Portland trades with will have to have us involved and insure with us who they are getting at 3, hence give us something to get the player they want.
It must be tough to really put the work in and get little âclickâ appreciation for it. And I do get that salaciousness sells. Sad reality of life.
I like Walker & Doug. I listen to every podcast and have for many years, well before the locked on days. Their production value is top-notch, and I enjoy the vast majority of what they put out. Theyâre having to churn out a podcast every day, without substantive news worthy of the schedule, and I donât envy them that. However, I absolutely stand by my comments that they have gone down the irresponsible takes route a couple of times too many, for my personal taste. Giving too much voice and unwarranted credence to some othersâ, frankly, dodgy reporting. The reason it irks me is that they are better than that. Yes itâs in the name of entertainment, of which they provide plenty, but my views are my views. I hope they have continued and greater success, and I will be listening and enjoying their content.
On your pods @Plowright, you have put out some really good stuff recently. Genuinely top-notch. A different format and style than Walker & Doug, but very welcome indeed. You can tell you put in the work, donât have an ego and arenât afraid to back your ranking/opinions, even if they differ from the consensus. Youâve also had some really good guests on. As a fellow Englishman, I also take a certain vicarious pleasure in your work.
I do feel lucky to have access to both pods, and they are the only two Hornets pods I regularly listen to.
Thank you for the kind words, it honestly means a lot.
Where can I find your podcast?
Iâve provided some links below, weâve had some great draft related episodes with Matt Babcock and Adam Spinella on recently, definitely worth listening back to as the discussion is still very relevant:
Apple - âAll Hornets Podcast Network on Apple Podcasts
Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/7exoil9h2qWRZLauYrSNJO
I accidentally watched Wembyâs highlights from yesterdayâs game.
Warning: donât do it. it makes you sad all over again.
If you want a good deep dive podcast that into focuses on the nba draft, Iâd check out No Ceiling. Todayâs episode they do a deep drive look at the entire draft and roster for the top four teams. Spurs, hornets, blazers, and Houston.
And they actually talk about the hornets. I liked the scoot vs miller commentary.
Ah, I listened to and referenced that podcast last week, didnât realize that was yours. I really enjoy it, and keep up the good work.
To piggyback off of a post about the 27th pick @ncborn . I think you made a good point about finding some guys that are more NBA ready. And I would agree. It would be good to find some guys who are physically there and have an adult mindset. Sort of the âadult in the roomâ kind of feel.
Which makes me wonder why you feel so strongly about Brandon miller over Scoot.
Physically, scoot is absolutely built and NBA ready. Scoot finished at the rim in half court scenarios at 59% in a league with grown as men. I think people forget about this with the g league. Itâs not full of 18-20 year old still filling out. It has grown ass men with NBA experience or aspirations. Miller finished at the rim at a 39% clip, and he tends to want to avoid contact. And not everyone is sold on him as that upper tier athlete.
Scoot has an amazingly mature mindset and is ready to be a leader. Miller isnât doing interviews well and worse news seems to come out about the legal situation.
So, when you call for NBA ready adults, why miller over scoot?
