I created a thread! Yaaaayyy!
What a great move! I can’t believe it.
Damn! I had just bought my nurkic jersey!
Just heard he ranked in the 98th percentile for mid range jumpers for combo guards.
I know we have an audience for that.
Sexton is 26 and is coming off the best season of his career. Another younger guy that will most likely be our energy off the bench with Tre Mann. Sexton is a guaranteed dawg and a guy with championship character traits. I love it. We literally got the younger, better player on the same length of contract (1 year expiring, Sexton is actually cheaper lol) AND got paid a good 2nd to do it (2030 best of Jazz/Clippers). FLEECE
I do wonder if this will have an impact on Mann coming back. Maybe we’re still actively pursuing him, but our need has been significantly reduced, therefore, perhaps so has our willingness to pay at the upper end of what he might command. I still want the player, but I’m less sure about the fit on the roster … if that makes sense.
Tre should be a much better back up PG than Sexton.* Sexton was picked 8th overall and still got traded after the Cavs spent years trying to shoe horn him into the 1.
Utah made the same mistake and that’s how we got him for peanuts (Jusuf). Sexton is by far most valuable as a 2. I think the FO understands this; hence, the Mann signing.
All of that said, I think the roster still has enough room for a 3rd PG. But we probably need to cut a couple of 2’s.
*In his early EARLY days Collin would ball hog. Great for fantasy bball but terrible for the team and winning.
Would you want KJ to stick around as the third PG? Honestly, I don’t see KJ as necessary since Sexton can essentially serve the role as the third PG. I agree with everything said about Sexton, as he thrives in more of a Terry Rozier role.
But as the third PG, it’s a little different. I think Sexton as the third PG would be better than KJ. I don’t mind Sexton running point for a few minutes a game if Mann and Melo need a breather.
This is why I read these boards!
Your proposal is much more strategic and economical than what I suggested. I am sure that the FO is considering that approach too.
Or … maybe they’ll sign Dinwiddie?
(Ignore the time stamp on this post. It was definitely before they signed him … if they do … because I’m just guessing, obviously)
Google AI Overview
Collin Sexton’s competitive spirit and “fearlessness” have caught the attention of new Charlotte Hornets coach Charles Lee. Lee even joked that Sexton used to stare him down from the opposing bench, but now they’re on the same team. Sexton, recently traded to the Hornets, is eager to be a veteran presence and help build the team culture.
36:50 in, they throw out Houston trading for Sexton in light of Van Vleets injury. It had crossed my mind that with our glut of guards we might be the go to team for Houston to try to replace Van Vleet. They might be willing to come off something significant since they are all in on winning now with Durant.
Pretty sure thats out the door given we waived NSJ. Not that he’s been amazing but if we were going to flip Sexton we probably would need him here.
I’d disagree. Sans Sexton, we have Dinwiddie and KJ to backup the point guard spot. Josh Green will make his way back from injury at some point to play SG. Oh, and there’s Kon to play SG that we drafted at pick 4. If anything, I see the NSJ cut as room for more KJ Simpson and being able to call up Sion James to play, who can guard positions 1-3, and distribute/handle the ball. As well as more playing time for Kon.
maybe I misread, but I don’t see how cutting NSJ would impede a sexton trade later on. However, Houston fans and the national media would expect us to trade sexton to Houston for peanuts. So that’s the reason why he wouldn’t get traded IMO
