2022 Draft: Who you like?

I think he goes top 8.

If it’s only two… then you could be spot on

1 rookie makes sense for this roster if they aren’t trading for a vet

One Rookie does indeed make sense if we’re looking for the playoffs, but 13 & 15 & a first round player from the last draft is WAY, WAY too much for Duren. That would be irresponsible front office gambling.

If that’s the price, I say pick at 13 and trade 15 for a 1st rounder next season (or visa/versa).

I don’t mind if we consolidate picks to do something creative but giving up more than this year’s picks for an asset or pick in this year’s draft would be a disappointing. I also don’t like moving up in this draft unless you are getting into the top 3 or 4 and that would take more than 13 and 15. Ergo, I’m hoping we don’t move up for anyone.

Agree entirely. From a Big Board perspective, there’s little to separate players in the lottery outside the top 4ish.

Murry, Mathurin, Daniels, Duren, Griffin, Davis, Sochan, Williams, Agbaji, Eason, Branham are simply different flavours of Häagen-Dazs ice cream … roughly the same quality, it’s simply a case of picking the flavour you like most. That’s why I wouldn’t trade two firsts for any of them and certainly wouldn’t add one of Bouknight, Kai or Thor into the mix too.

I’m eating that food all day long! All in on a soft reset.

I’d move Terry, Hayward, Oubre, and Mason. I’d give PJ the year to prove what he can do under KA (or sign him earlier if the money’s right); obviously feature LaMelo & Miles; give proper minutes to Cody, Bouknight, McDaniels, Thor & Kai. Let’s see what we’ve got in our young guys.

There are loads of players I like in this draft too. I can see Duren & Williams, maybe Koloko being good additions. Murray, Sochan, Eason & Jovic could be really good for us. Daniels, Davis, Branham, Agbaji, Terry would all excite me. LaRavia, Williams & Moore are players I like too. Why not work some trades to get three picks in this first round, fill the roster with youth and let KA develop and mould them into a team that functions and works hard on both sides of the ball. Then start filling holes with free agents and trading for vets next season.

Not sure if this is better as off season or draft related but here we are

How many years have we been linked to that name? It feels like it’s been 3-4 years now lol. I know it hasn’t, but damn.

Yes, Myles is Drummond 2.0. Man, How many posts we made on these threads and hypotheticals?

If we are taking on their injury prone plays less than Hayward…Pacers take on more expensive Hayward, and haggle over cost…#15 a bargain considering cap savings.
A reason could be to make deal happen with 15% Hayward trade kicker and reduce butt hurt a little…we also take on McConnell 3/26.
And/or work deal with Kai Jones. FO love, but If trading for Myles, got to feel FO plans on paying RFA $$$ next year, Mitch swap those Longhorns for more Kenny players and cap space.

I read a article saying this trade.
Out 13th and 15th Oubre
In 9th and 20th Pertal
We do this to get a good stop gap center with only one year left. We move up to 9th to get one of Duran or Williams , Players are going to fall to 20th we can still get a good player their.
S/A might want 45 th all so but i think i still do it.
I saw this on a pod cast.

Believe that was just the LockedOnHornets mock draft trade deal. Or something close to it.

What are your thoughts on that trade? Would you do it ?

I think the locked on draft was actually just 15 and Oubre for 20 and Poetl. They picked Mark Williams at 13 and got Jalen Williams from Santa Clara at 20.

Thats was the one thoughts on it. Williams i think is going to be good . I think he could be a good wing.

If you mean do I like 13+15+KOJ for 9+20+Poeltl? I guess. But if I should like it, I can’t imagine why SAS would do it. Which takes me to think that 9 is not much better than 13 and there are far smarter draft guys than me that think the delta between Duren and M. Williams isn’t that great so doing it for that, while getting a center feels weird. But I’d do it just to sure up our center rotation and offload Kelly so maybe I’m not the guy to ask lol.

I’m not that impressed by Williams as an athletic defender. Specifically, as a guy who can switch easily in today’s modern game. I can see Mark struggling with smaller, faster players who will blow by him. Or Williams picking up a bunch of quick fouls because he doesn’t have the ability to move his feet as a defender. Accumulating blocks does not equate to elite defender. See Andre Drummonds. I watched a decent amount of ACC basketball this year.

I feel about Williams like I feel about most of this draft. Meh.

Edit: I’m very critical of PJ Washington, but I thought he improved a lot as the season went on, but PJ proved himself to be a pretty good switch defender who can keep up with smaller, faster players on the switch defense. This is what Mark Williams would struggle with IMO. Mark Williams’s draft profile projection is Erick Dampier/Clint Capela. I can see that.

Thoughts on Jalen Williams Shoots a real good three ball?

I think there would be a player exchange for one of our projects. Wont just be two picks and a player we have drafted in years past.

Pretty much with @powellrmp on Williams, though a little higher.

He’s your traditional style, drop coverage C. He will block shots and rebound as he’s very tall and very long. He will be a presence in the paint. Unusually, he does show a nice shooting touch for a genuine 7ft’er and hits well from the line.

However, as with most humans who are 7ft plus barefoot, he’s not that agile and can’t move his feet quickly. All this is to say he can’t switch onto guards and wings. This type of player still has a place in the NBA, but he isn’t going to close out games and will be schemed off the court in the playoffs (I can dream, right?). So the questions becomes, how high should you pick such a player?

The reason Duren is universally rated higher is he can switch onto smaller players, he can move his feet, he is both agile and explosive as an athlete. This is in addition to being a presence in the paint, blocking shots and grabbing rebounds. And he’s very young, so there’s the promise of much more to come. He doesn’t have William’s shooting touch, however, but he projects to be at least decent.

That’s why, to me, there is almost no doubt Duren goes ahead of Williams. Where I do have a hard time, is giving up multiple picks for him. Maybe, just maybe, I could be tempted into 13 & 15, though I would snatch anyone’s hand off for 13 & Oubre (if someone wants forward depth and an expiring).

Im with you there kitch :100:.

In my opinion, for a traditional drop step big to be great in todays game they have to be elite/dynamic at several things. Looking at mark Williams, what things will he be elite at? He’s not an elite shooter or scorer. I think he’s a good passer, but I’d say plumlee is a good passer also IMO.

You can say that scorer wasn’t necessarily a role for bigs in coach K’s system. I hear that argument, and maybe he excelled with what he was given.

I think the hope or ceiling for mark Williams, is that he will become an elite shot blocker, rebounder, and rim runner.

But those bigs can get schemed out-especially in the playoffs. So in my opinion, there’s always a ceiling to this kind of player.

…unless he develops an outside shot. But he has a good looking free throw stroke though.
