2023-24 Hornets General Discussion Thread

An amazing turnaround indeed. However, offensive rating is 25th in the last 6 games. 28th for the season. Offense is what will/has kept Clifford from remaining a HC.

Let’s get Melo and mark back. I’m going to wait to make a judgement until then. After all, the offense looked fairly good the first four games.

The very low offensive rating is due to the last two games, which were poopfests. That’ll heavily skew a small sample size.

That’s cool, the athletic also liked my wording from my post a week ago, the case/reasons for optimism in charlotte. (I’m kidding by the way if that’s not obvious)

In case you don’t have Charlotte Observer Rod Boone access…

Aside from the offense, passing, defense, three point shooting, and everything else that’s come with the new guys…I’ve realized how nice it’s going to be to have a real bench. I think that’s the biggest plus out of all of this.

For so many years our bench has been a real back breaker. We all knew when the starters went out, the other team was going to go on a run. It seemed to always leave our starters digging themselves out of a hole.

Even if we have a bench to give the starters a 4 minute break, and know they’re not going to fall apart is such a boost.

The Charlotte Hornets are expected to sign F Aleksej Pokusevski per Woj.

This is a very nice pickup for free.

He has a lot of promise just hasn’t had much opportunity. He is a point forward type. Very skinny.

Who’s getting cut?

He also has a better shot than Thor but is a legit 7’

It’s funny I started to post last week when OKC waived him how different it looks when they cut a recent former 1st round pick vs when the Hornets do (i.e. Bouknight and Kai Jones). I know he’s torched us a few times and I was thinking I wish they had thrown him in with the trade. Definitely a nice add to take a flyer on.

Woj says the most likely candidate to be waived is Marques Bolden on the 10 day contract or they could sign Poku to a two-way contract with Nathan Mensah being the likely player to be replaced.

He has an all around game no doubt. I would expect Bolden to be cut but if we make him a 2 way and get rid of Mensah that is the same thing then we could use a 10 day on someone else if needed since Boldens ends tmrw or something

Signing a player to a 10-day with Clifford feels like buying a parka for life in the Bahamas.

With Poku coming on that would mean we have two Serbian basketball players. Team Serbia!

I would think Poku will take Bertans minutes but then again Clifford is our coach so he will take birth certificates into account when issuing PT

Trying not to overreact but now might be a good time to make that coaching move. I know we’re just finishing up a grinding road trip but that was an ass-kicking.

Of the 3, jazz is the most appealing. I like George. Would probably need both Hendricks and George and the best of their pick pile

Agreed. I was high on Hendricks coming into this draft. I’d rather take both George and Hendricks and settle for three first rounders. They may want another player back or some second rounders. But I wouldn’t settle for less than Hendricks and George.

But Melo playing only about 60% of his career hurts trade value. It’ll never happen.

He would also pitch an absolute fit to go to Utah. If he ever got wind of it, he would blow it up demanding a major marquee market

It’s just so funny to me that the free flow offense we saw during that four game winning streak was with everyone new, next to no practices, and a bare bones game plan. It was fluid, there was passing, open shots, cutting and driving to the basket.

Now that cliff has had time for practices and installing things, the offense has cratered. In the most embarrassing free fall I could ever imagine.

I had mentioned that if the team can keep up similar play from those first four games, I’d entertain keeping Cliff around. No.

I’m glad this happened as it was a stark, shift kick in the nuts reminder of who cliff is. I really do like Cliff as a person, and I sincerely hope he takes some sort of developmental/advisory role within the organization. Players tend to respect and respond well to him.
