Look at what these former hornets from our former “core” of players have done for other teams. Nada. You can argue PJ, but he had two or three good games and has been super quiet since. Same old PJ.
Miles bridges will be another just like the rest (Hayward, rozier, PJ) to move on and not make a big difference on their new teams
I think the “doesn’t contribute to winning” criticism is a tough one given that we haven’t been close to having the personnel to compete the past couple of years. The two years in recent memory in which we’ve played post-season basketball, he contributed pretty significantly to those. Miles has gradually improved each year and has been one of the most durable guys we’ve had. He alone isn’t good enough to carry us, but he has a skill set that can be an important piece in what we’re trying to build.
The past behavioral issues can’t be ignored so I think the stipulations in that proposed contract are appropriate. And I’m certainly not opposed to a S&T since that would ensure that we’d get some return value, but strictly from a basketball perspective, I think those numbers are fair.
We don’t really hold much leverage in Bridges now do we to hope for a S&T. Bet we let him walk… We basically took all that extra criticism from the league and other fans for nothing. As I’ve noted the new coach is already talking about the “lean years”. Imagine we’re going for the reset/rebuild at least for the next couple seasons.
Even if we remove, his ‘behavioural issues’ from the equation, we’re talking about our third option on offence who’s a negative defender, and an average passer and rebounder. He’s clearly lost some of his bounce too.
That said he’s good for 20 points, albeit at a higher than ideal usage, and is an absolute iron man in the minutes he can play.
I struggle to get north of 20 for a player with his BBIQ and defensive issues. Maybe that’s me being out of touch with the ever increasing salary cap. I’d much rather a sign and trade.
You’re right. Miles isn’t a good individual defender or team defender either. And that’s what really bugs me is that sometimes people will think he’s a good defender because of a big block due to his athleticism. I fell for it early on for sure.
Which is the mind numbingly frustrating part of it all-Miles has the tools to be a decent defender and a really good help/team defender…which leads us to the Basketball IQ.
Ohhh boy. There could be a YouTube super cut of Miles making terrible decisions on both ends of the floor. And just kind of standing around on defense being about two/three steps behind.
Miles is not a great basketball player period. He plays for himself. He doesn’t make things better for the team. Offensively he certainly has skills but he uses them for him only. He’s a version of Corey maggette
Yeah Indy is locking themselves into a perennial 4 seed. (As a 20 year hornets fan, I would welcome a 4 year run of that) But that team was fortunate to get to the conference finals
Go out and get out of the remaining free agents Saddiq Bey for backup sf, Gary Trent Jr for backup sg Jalen Smith for pf depth and trade for Wendell Carter Jr for backup c and we’re set. Maybe even bring in Horton.
Melo, Mann, Horton
Miller, Trent Jr, Martin
Bridges, Bey, McGowens
Salaun, Grant, Smith
Williams, Carter Jr, FA
Yeah I totally agree. I think miles has been on a crash course with signing a crappy MLE somewhere. Geez, what a shame. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy, oh geez darn.
