2024-25 Hornets General Discussion

Doesn’t matter in that scenario. This team is a long way from that being a concern

The current guy, Brandon miller.

edit: Melo/Green/Miller/Flagg/Mark

Yeah, none of this matters as it’s way in the future and purely hypothetical. But at least it’s better than talking about the present lol. I did leave Tre Mann out of the starting 5 because I love him as the energy guy to captain the bench unit.

Also, while Flagg isn’t a Wemby level prospect (but no one is or may ever be again), he’s gotta be the most coveted number one overall pick in a very long time. He’s incredible. Absolutely cannot miss talent. He freaking reclassed and entered Duke at 17…after absolutely dominating the Olympic camp. He just turned 18 about a month ago. Wild stuff.

Well I finally watched the expanded highlights from the recent Suns game. And ohhhh boy Mark Williams looked good in that first half. Tantalizing. That’s what I wanting to see this year. And was why Mark Williams was my x factor of this season.

I would think the last thing we need is another small forward lol. Maybe Okogie has a better contract?

Plus this opens up minutes for Diabate to be the main backup center now I suppose. Not the worst thing in the world.

Nick should fit in well for Phoenix, he definitely doesn’t have to do more than dunk and rebound on offense.

Doesn’t move the needle much but maybe it opens them up for a Cody Martin trade.

The team is really going to be fun when / if Mark Williams goes down again though.

I’m happy we have moved Nick. I like him as a guy, but he wasn’t much value add as a player. I would much rather we see what we have in Moussa at this point.

Moved Nick but didn’t seem to add value in return IMO. shrug

If you’re wondering, I think Okogie has been described as MKG like, so that’s more great news for your Hornets. Lol

I loved the trade. Okogie is a solid defender, and is shooting a career best from three this year. Hornets only owe Okogie 7.5m next year. Allows the hornets to move on from Cody Martin.

And the three 2nd round picks will be good. Suns may not be good in 2026, and there’s a definite chance they’ll be in full rebuild mode in 2031. (We have two of their 2031 2nd rounds) So all those 2nd rounders might be quite high, and definitely the 2031 picks

We have Denver 2026 2nd, it’s Phoenix 2031. Either way, it’s trade-aid of we get busy in the off season.

Think Okogie isn’t guaranteed next year so he can just be waived if we want to walk away.

Also Denver 2031

Yes absolutely. So to me, this was a very good trade. Can waive a guy, pick up three 2nd rounders that might actually be really good picks. I’m fine with it. More than fine with it

So is this the part of the season where they put it all together for 2 weeks and win 8 out of 10 games climb into play in contention. Then mark or melo gets hurt and they fall off. Then finish in the 8-10th lottery spot?

Or is this the point where the curse is finally lifted. They stay healthy and barely miss the play offs but win the lottery from the 11-13th position

Or option c: the losing continues anyways and then pieces of BMW (Brandon Melo Williams) also get injured, which ensures the losing will continue.

I like calling our trio “BMW” because in the car world everyone knows that stands for “broken most weeks”. Any BMW owner gets really comfortable with the check engine light being on all the time.

Anywho. Positive news. Mark williams is on a heater. His last two games:

31/13
24/16

21/26 FG which is about 81% from the field. That’s pretty neat.

I also love this trade, Okogies contract is non-guaranteed I believe next year too so if we want to move off him we can easily.

I liked Nick Richards a lot more than most Hornets fans did, but I think it was time to move off from him.

And I guess that means Moussa will have a true role carved out as the backup center. Fun fact, in 3 games with the Swarm this season, Moussa has averaged 16.7pts and 14.7reb. Playing an average of 36 minutes per game.

Granted, it’s the G League and sometimes big guys can have some inflated stats. But damn, 15 rebounds per game.
