Yeah exactly. The Cavs medical found it. They really did right by him but they weren’t obliged to. Unless this was similar, the Lakers have no obligation here. Despite the dialog here, they screwed themselves now than we did. They nuked any chance of acquiring a decent center because they reverted to back over the apron. The reputation hit we take is either on our medical staff or on Mark himself.
….buy him out. Sounds like the lakers would love to sign a buyout player right now…![]()
But lakers may not be able to. I know “apron” teams can’t get buyout players. Or maybe that’s only second apron teams??
Yeah I’m with you. I think that’s where the hornets FO needs to be transparent and proactive about this. In a damage control sort of way. Because it’s just a bad look all around
No, they can get buyout guys, but only those making less than the MLE when bought out. Nurk is well above the MLE.
That’s right. Thanks for that. A lot of cap nuance with the apron stuff. Yeah Nurkic is far above the MLE.
I’d love for the Hornets to go after the Lakers, but I also don’t want this to drag on with Mark. That’s not fair to him. I feel like there is nothing we can do. Let’s hope Mark balls and shows it’s all BS.
Yes, to me, the Lakers doing something fucky is the least likely situation here. They honestly would have been cutting off their nose to spite their face. Possible, but unlikely.
Good luck, most likely you will hear only media narratives from the Lakers that may or may not be accurate. Think of them as paid state media.
So yeah, expect to only hear what the Lakers want you to hear about this
I think this is highly unlikely. There are 30 teams and while big markets might like to be exclusive, no one wants the Lakers, with LaBron and Luka, to have a clear path to anything. If they are doing something untoward, which i now feel is very unlikely, 20 other teams will be screaming with us.
If the Lakers were truly concerned about Mark’s condition once they got a chance to look under the hood I can understand why they wouldn’t want to give up all those assets. We wouldn’t either for a player if we thought he was damaged goods. Passing the physical has always been a caveat of trades, and it really isn’t all that far fetched that this is legit given our own concerns about his health and availability. I just hope Mark can stay healthy enough and play well enough to make them regret pulling out and make us glad they did.
Yeah Deac, I totally agree.
Happy Sunday morning everyone. The Sunday my dreams died. Hornets Bloody Sunday 2/9/25. Well I guess the news came out Saturday evening. But whatever. Hornets Bloody Sunday sounds better.
Or, “Mark’s Medical Mishap” Sunday.
But on a serious note, I hope this is not how we find out that mark has some serious underlying health condition…and not even from a hornets team perspective. But from a personal perspective. That would be really saddening.
Bright side: mark just became a $.25 on the dollar extension.
And to your earlier point, I’ll be MUCH more disappointed if the Phoenix trade were to fall through versus this one. That one was an absolute steal.
The Moussa signing for 3 years is great news IMO. Irrespective of all else, that’s great for him and us.
I think this is a questionable report.
Tough situation. Certainly don’t think we’ll win any PR war with the other team. So id be careful not to enter that sphere unless there is truly something shady going on. I do hope as an organization - we can use this all as a reset. Right now things look pretty wish wash - and personally find it hard cuddle up to the Hornets with support given the recent lack of injury transparency. I hope we were truly unaware of what’s slipping out or that its spin, I hope Mark is fine personally - and that our organization can continue to move forward. The moves were there. The offseason was always going to be our true test. Continue the focus there.
Play him at the 4!
